Here it is - a first, and you're reading it here. Your class secretary's wife has been handed the dull pencils, a legal pad, assorted scraps of paper, and asked to produce a printable column in a few hours' time. Hope none of you big green men out there will take offense at this greater feminine presence.
The first scrap of news tells that Pete Wolford was appointed as marketing representative for Dunn Properties Corp., a national business and industrial park developer based in Santa Ana, Calif. Pete lives in Marina Del Ray.
Next on the pile is a note from Dr. CarlosPlummer saying he was married last August to Kathy Church in Hollywood, "having decided I'd try it, before marriage became obsolete." He's now living in Sacramento and is professor of geology at California State University. He had worked previously in Denver for the U.S. Geological Survey on its Antarctic Project.
Sam Adams, another one of the "rock people," is chief geologist of uranium exploration for Anaconda in Salt Lake City. His wife Nancy writes that they visited Ted Gude and his new wife Katie in Chicago before Christmas (Columnist's note: thanks to all the wives who have sent in news over the years. Hope more of them will do so!) Sam and Nancy obviously take advantage of the outdoors, skiing in winter and backpacking in the summer. To paraphrase Brigham Young - this must be their place.
A note from Harry Jeffrey says he was recently appointed chief historian - archivist, for the Cost of Living Council in Washington, D.C., and his duties include interviewing Nixon administration officials, collecting documents, and writing a history of the economic stabilization program. Now if you could only ...
Next comes an announcement that Fred Francis became a partner in the Pittsburgh law firm of Meyer, Unkovic and Scott in January.
According to a ragged piece of the March 16 New York Times, Dave Gavitt, coach of the Providence College Friars was named UPI's New England major college basketball coach of the year for the third straight time. I, for one, think Dave did a great job toastmastering the 10th Reunion dinner and he obviously knows his basketball.
Dick Watson reports that he is busy with the insurance business, running the local Dartmouth Club, and trying to get an ABC house going in Glastonbury. A new wife, new baby, etc. have added to the confusion, he says.
Major Bob Worthington wrote that he is working on his Ph.D. in counseling psychology at the University of Utah, also working at the V.A. Hospital as a psychology intern. In August he plans to transport wife Anita and three daughters to the vicinity of Walter Reed Army Hospital where he will spend another year's internship.
The last piece of news arrived today so it should be considered relatively current. Dr. Donn Leaf, a pathologist at St. John's Hospital, Red Wing, Minn., since last September, writes that Stu Hanson and his wife visited from Minneapolis for some skiing and a beer pancake breakfast. Beer pancakes? Since this is your specialty, Donn, how about sharing the recipe?
Well I've run out of scraps so this is it, there ain't no more. Wayne's going to add a P.S. to make this "legal." Please all you '59s out there (wives too) write a quick note to tell what you're up to. Otherwise, next month's column will be filled with recipes. Who knows, if we're lucky the one for beer pancakes will be included.
Thanks for bailing me out this month Joan, (I must add there has been much more invisible help along the way). This year's Alumni Fund Drive also needs our help in meeting its goal. Please give the 1973 effort careful consideration and give as generously as you can.
