We are into the stretch "Gang" and the Big Bash is only a furlong away!!!
My Mary has tapped the cookie jar and kids are primed for our retreat into the past ... or the days of white bucks, crew cuts, and chino's.
I have purchased a girdle and have been practicing holding my lower chest in an upright position in order to impress all of you with my strict adherence to a physical prowess schedule over the years.
The "D" sweater that I banked on wearing tp one of the outings had to be put back into the moth balls because it looked like a bib once I squeezed it over my head ... try to tell one of your kids that it once fit perfectly while they're busting their guts laughing at my futile attempt to stretch the damn thing.
Last week I wandered into the North Station to inquire about the Boston & Maine Train schedule to White River Junction and much to my surprise the fellow broke into hysterics then yelled to his buddy, "the man from LaMancha is out here inquiring about a B & M train schedule??"... somehow I got the message ...
Well maybe times have changed but rest assured once we get together in Hanover as a group it won't make a damn bit of difference. A few beers at the tent and the year 1952 will be rejuvinated.
John McWilliam is the new (and second youngest) president of the American Association of Port Authorities. As general manager and chief executive officer of the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority and the Port of Toledo, John is the subject of a laudatory two-page article in the publication World Ports. The new president is described as predicting that 1973 will be a year of turmoil in the maritime industry, but he is optimistic because of the quality of people who make up the various committees of the hemispheric organization.
Charlie Blakemore, executive creative director for Leo Burnett U.S.A., has been elected a senior vice president of that Chicago-based agency. He joined them as a copywriter in 1958 and in 1961 left for a ten-year period, after which he returned as associate creative director. Charlie was secretary of our Class from 1962-68 and president of the Class Secretaries Association for one term. He and wife Kathleen are the parents of two sons and two daughters.
Since we are going to see each other in the near future and since the cards and letters are on the skinny side this past month I do not intend to follow the usual format; however, I am sure that the reunion issue will contain a great deal of news concerning the accomplishments of the Class.
Six years ago I was elected to the office of class secretary and as your secretary I wrote and submitted columns monthly to the. Alumni Magazine for your idle perusal.
At the time of acceptance, I felt that six years was an eternity; however, now that I am about to complete my final column, I can sincerely say that the years flew by all too swiftly and that I enjoyed receiving your wonderful cards and letters that enabled me to put together the columns.
To Joan Hier and her staff I doff my cap; for their kind patience and helpful assistance over the years, a sincere THANKS!
To all of you who struggled with me enduring the columns with tongue in cheek, my thanks for your support.
