The Class of 1962 is really making a name for itself around Hanover. The center of campus bonfires '62 has fashioned are called "the biggest ever," and everyone seems to have a good word about '62's academic potential.

I've got a different slant on these '62s, stemming directly from the thought that when these boys walk up to receive their diplomas we'll be only a matter of days away from our big 10th reunion. For some strange reason I've felt a bit older since '62 rolled into town!

Among the faces in the crowd at the Big Green home games, I'm sure I've spotted Ev Parker, Dort Bigg, Albie Collins and Bob Jelley. George Andretta shared my plastic covering to watch the opener with Lafayette while the rains fell.

Bob Jelley, as we reported in advance last month, was wed to Betsy Brown in early September. Another ceremony that came off as scheduled united John Bartlett and Jeanne Throckmorton. The clipping is also in on the Dave Brew-Alice Dickerman wedding.

Now that we've squared the records with the above report we can move ahead to note that Ed Oberndorf and Caroline Gleason were planning an October wedding in Cleveland, John Klein and Bud Barker are serving as ushers. Caroline's a Cleveland gal and a Wellesley grad.

Bud, who was in Hanover with Sandy for Club Officers Weekend, promised a complete report on Ed's wedding. Another '52 back for the Club Officers event was Roy Wikstrom. Roy and family by now have transplanted themselves from New Britain, Conn., to New Orleans.

On September 1 in the Beacon House in Brookline, Mass., Rog Steinharter and Harriet N. Fox of Dorchester became man and wife. The new Mrs. Steinharter is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts. After their wedding trip to the Virgin Islands, the couple planned to reside in New York City.

Larry Stern, former staff member of the Christian Science Monitor. Marine Corps captain and Stanford graduate student, is now editor of the "Sales Executive" and director of public relations for the Sales Executive Club of New York.

Tad Stahl has been appointed to the faculty of Wellesley according to a recent announcement by the president. Tad, who has lectured at the Architectural Association School of Architecture and taught architecture in England will be a part-time instruct or in the art department. He'll teach a course in medieval architecture. Tad still has his own architectural practice.

The Rev. Walt Grevatt has accepted the call to become assistant minister of the Church of the Covenant in Cleveland, Ohio. Walt, who for two years was pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Sand Lake N. Y., also taught religion at the Emma Willard School. Walt and Margaret have one daughter, Kathryn.

John McCrillis has made two recent trips to Hanover, that I know of. One to serve as an usher at the wedding of President Dickey's daughter, Christina, to Stewart P. Stearns Jr. '54. The other was to participate in the big twin-state tennis tournament out on the courts in front of the Buck house. One of the finalists ended John's hopes for the crown.

Kirk Spurr is now Dr. Spurr, according to the Cambridge, N. Y., Post. Kirk was awarded his degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of physical chemistry by Cornell last month. Kirk and family were due for a move to Bound Brook, N. J., the paper reports, where Kirk was to join the research department of Bakelite Company, a Union Carbide division.

Dr. Ben Stein is at present studying neurology under a Fulbright at National Hospital in Queens. I know Dick Watt will have reported on Dr. Ed Smuckler's "life saving" achievement but for the friends of Ed in the classes around us I think it's worth repeating. Ed, while ship physician on a U. S. Naval transport enroute to the States from Japan, was called on to administer to a child stricken with a serious intestinal disorder. His skill was instrumental in saving the child's life.

John Crowell passed the June examination of the New Jersey Board of Bar Examiners to add one more name to the growing list of '52s who have earned similar distinction in their communities. Wilbur Smith has taken a position with the Cummins Engine Co., Inc. of Columbus, Ind. Cummins builds deisel engines.

John Mighell gained his B.D. degree at Christ Divinity School of the Pacific this June. He will go into the Episcopal ministry in Western Washington this winter.

Al Fiertz is one of those Pan-American World Airways whizzes, a co-pilot - he didn't say where he whizzes to, but I do know that Al and Beverly live in Great Neck, N. Y., with son Carey. Al's also associated part-time with a firm of aviation consultants. Bev's a Wheaton gal.

Some of the '52s active in the New York City area Capital Gifts campaigning for the College are Bill Fisher, John Rosenwald, Eek Davidson, Em White, Jay Stahl, F. A. Smith (I threw General Motors into a turmoil by a phone request for Farquhar Smith), Nels Ehinger. I'm sure that there are many more '52s active in this across the country. This is a big job for Dartmouth - I hope as many of you as possible will take up Dartmouth's banner in this cause.

How many days until Christmas?
