Just for the record, Bill Sherman, I did not seize Jean Harrison's composition on the men of '34. just wasn't smart enough at the time, so I, too, hope Len or Jean will send a copy either to Bill or me!! (comments in Sherman's Newsletter of September 25, top paragraph on page 2).
Had a chat with Bob Engelman, who was just leaving for lunch with Tom Hicks - just returned from a business trip to Mexico. Bob told me that Harry, and Prue Gilmore and Bill and Irja Wilson are planning a visit at Engelman's Vail, Colorado, hideaway the last week in February. Bob invites one and ail to join them for skiing and libation if you are in the vicinity. It was comforting to know that our reunion co-chairmen are still speaking to each other!!!
Thanks very much to Bill Emerson for his most welcome correspondence. It will bring many of you up to date on some classmates an also, I hope, will encourage more of you to write to me.
Bill enclosed a Xerox of the Portland PressHerald with a picture of the "Oothoon" - yep, that is the name - a home-made, concrete, Chinese junk. It was built by Patrick and Martha Estroff - Martha is the daughter of Bill arid Margaret Judd. They have a summer place at Damariscotta, Maine, and their daughter and husband had sailed up to visit them. I was going to take a crack at the name of the junk and the name of the town, but realised that Damariscotta (there it is again) is also Bill Emerson's home and I couldn't insult him after his help to me.
Bill saw Cal Calmon at the ACS meeting, (American Chemical Society) and Cal has either just retired, or is in the process of so doing. Write me your plans, Cal.
He also talked with Howie Mc Hugh on his way through Boston. Howie had a heart attack in the spring and was unable to attend Reunion. He is progressing and is back at work, which is certainly good news.
Dick and Mary Emerson had lunch at Damariscotta (how does that keep coming up?), in August, with their non-relatives and said they were planning a trip to the Maritimes. How about a report, Dick?
Art and Midge Nissen keep track of Bill, and Art is still "up to his ears" in his law practice. Bill, thanks again and please don't stop. I know you are busy with some academic lecturing and a little consulting, but don't get too busy to write me again!!!
Had a nice long letter from Ed Klee, who lives in Los Gatos, Calif. His full address is in the Reunion Book. Ed covered the period from 1923 (when we were both in 7th grade together) up to October 1974. He has seen a few of our classmates during the past 40 years and mentioned Randy Cook; Chuck Cottsworth; BillGaye, (in a swimming pool in Yosemite); and Bill Sheffeld, shortly before Bill passed away. Ed is involved in social work with the State of California, but since he is retiring November 1, he will just be a man of leisure by the time you read this. Thanks for the letter, Ed.
Hope all of you have a very nice Thanksgiving, and I'll see you next month.
