Some of you may have heard or read of an American diplomat last December who was "roughed up" in Leningrad. Although no names were mentioned you may be interested to know he is the son of our Class of '36 permanent cheerleader. Happily, he and his family are back in this country in good health.
A page from the proxy statement of the 1st National Bank of Boston contains the name of David F. Putnam as a candidate for reelection to the board of directors of the bank... You may recall the Tithe account of Dave's heart attack and subsequent bypass heart surgery. Happily Dave has apparently recovered fully from his problems if his present activities are any criteria, - chairman of the board of Markem Corporation, Keene, N.H.; chairman of Markem (Europa) N.V. in Holland; Markem (U.K.) Limited and Milford-Astor Limited in England; and Maclin Products in Canada, director of the Bank of the Ludlow Corporation and Waters Associates, Inc. in Massachusetts; a distributing director of the New Hampshire Charitable Trust; and a trustee of the Protestant Episcopal Church in New Hampshire. We're glad you are well again, Dave.

When we receive address changes we send cards trying to elicit more information which we can use here as well as bring our files up to date. Fortunately some people respond but we wish more classmates would drop us a line of explanation or news - even a postcard. In any event, Joe Cunningham has written to explain his move from Maryland to Puerto Rico. He and Virginia have a 90- acre coffee farm which hasn't been worked for ten years. They are working to bring it back into production along with citrus and plantains. They also plan to build a number of guest houses but must get the farm reactivated and their own home built first. They are living in what was the farm manager's house for which Joe added the running water along with other building projects, clearing land, plowing, planting, etc. Joe continues to work as a consultant on expositions and this arrangement lets him continue as exposition manager for the Packaging Manufacturers Institute and the Machine Tool Show. Russ Page visited, in early February which apparently involves preplanning, since the last two kilometers to Joe's house are barely passable by car unless a four-wheel drive. The Cunninghams hope to enventually offer a real vacation place for those who really mean it when they say they want to get away for a bit. No telephone, no delivered mail, no daily paper except by going to town, but electricity and modern plumbing, warm days and cool nights.
