A welcome communication dated May 17 and on Hanover Inn stationery helps fill the June space. From Jim Adams:
"After finding that I had made the biggest boo-boo of the decade by arriving in Hanover at the precise time Dartmouth was celebrating its first large scale venture in my own back yard, I brushed aside the tears and feebly endeavored to make the most out of a bad, bad situation. My wounded feelings healed in a hurry and Clarisse and I had a ball here in Hanover. It had been six years since the fantabulous 25th Reunion of the illustrious Class of '43.
"Being of the stalwart old tie clique, I readily admit that I found it a wee bit difficult to adjust to some of the changes on campus but after asking innumerable questions, I am convinced that all of these changes are for the good of Dartmouth, the U.S.A., and the world.
"With regard to my favorite subject, Dartmouth 1943, I have the following to report: JohnTroster and I are still pursuing the most-postponed luncheon-golf date in history. We live three miles apart and each of us has always had a sad, but valid, excuse when quarterly overtures are extended. Maybe next year!
"We were too embarrassed to hunt down Chuck Feeney to say 'Hello' at the four scrumptillious World Series Games at Oakland. We were there rooting for the Swinging A's to win all the way and too well remembered how olde Chas. takes his baseball seriously. Next time we would love to have him as our dinner guest, providing he arranges for the Giants to play in the series.
"Had a pleasant conversation with Ad Winship '42 this evening concerning his lovely baby sister who is coming to visit us in July. Now that Don and Pat Crance have abandoned Atlanta in favor of Denver, we're going to try and sell them on moving 1,000 more miles to the San Francisco Bay area!
"Trusting that Ernie Giusti reads this, we would like very much to hear from him.
The above concludes my 'brief comments" with but a single exception' In the wonderful history of the Hanover Inn, has any alumnus ever paused to acknowledge its admirable role?
"Our room was spacious, cheery, and reasonable. The corsage, pin cushion etc., were deeply appreciated. On my part, a belated wah-Hoo-Wah for the Hanover Inn. It's truly the "Home away from home for Dartmouth men."
