Our 50th Reunion June 6 through June 8 is shaping up as a top-notch gathering. As of early January we had a phenomenal 56% return on the first reunion mailing to the 323 active members of the Class. Results - 95 classmates and 12 widows definitely returning, 32 "maybe's" and 44 "no's." Total people planning to be there, including wives, children, and grandchildren are 219. The total given or pledged as of that time to the Alumni Fund 50th anniversary campaign was $215,000.

If you have replied in the negative or not at all, or if you have been undecided, there is still plenty of time to make a reservation, join old friends who will be glad to see you, and visit Hanover again at one of the best times of the year.

From The Dartmouth for March 1925 ... An earthquake was felt in the Hanover area one Saturday night when most of the College was at a basketball game in which Princeton defeated Dartmouth 23 to 21 in overtime to break a tie for the league lead . . . In Boston they were quartered at the Parker House and from there on slept in Pullman cars.

Returning to the present, George Zahm is still taking trips, although not in Pullman cars. He and Fran took off from Delray Beach in January for Santiago, thence over the Andes by boat and bus to San Carlos, Argentina, their favorite fishing spot.

Eddie and Haven Blake went to Florida to house sit for the Zahms' and were welcomed by a dinner party hosted by Marian and Curt Abel.

Wishes for "A Happier New Year to All " from Audrey and Ted Geisel consisted of a reprint of Art Buchwald's column for last July 30 in the Washington Post. It was Ted's poem "Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now!" with the name "Richard M. Nixon" submitted for Mooney and it turned out to be very timely.

When we reported that Bob Misch was lecturing on wine at a Bermuda hotel in January we did not realize that he had made a real breakthrough for wine bibbers by teaching a course in wine-tasting at the 63rd Street West Side branch of the Y.M.C.A. in New York City.

Treasurer Lane. Goss took off for Europe after Xmas, not with the class assets but loaded down with a heavy packet of Eurailpass tickets.

And Ellie and Jack Norris left in February in the opposite direction, to the Orient, where Jack will be meeting with people in government, industry, medicine and A.A. to continue his efforts in the world-wide fight against alcoholism.

John Brownell of Pittsburgh is another one heading for Europe, including the Greek Islands, on the "Gripsholm" this spring.

"Red" Carey, retired from the petroleum, industry and living in Pompano Beach, writes to urge New England to get going on offshore drilling and refineries.

Barrett Lyons writes from East Lansing, Mich. - "So many things to do in a huge university community ... Two papers to write for clubs, and as chairman of a citizens' committee appointed by the County board of commissioners am helping to plan a new public nursing home . . . have taken an apartment in St. Petersburg for January".

John and Drue Garrod left New Boston, N.H.. last fall to spend eight weeks chasing salmon on their favorite river, the Miramichi in New Brunswick.

Karl King of Evanston, Ill., started something for his family when he entered Dartmouth. He has a brother '34, a son '51, a grandson '77, and is working on a granddaughter to matriculate in a year or so. And Karl naturally is looking forward to being at the 50th Reunion.
