If this piece doesn't make it in time for the April issue I have no excuse except I was hoping to pick up more news of the Class from some recent local Dartmouth events. Unfortunately, the facts picked up were less than the volume I had expected. First, the glee club traveled to Connecticut for a concert in Greenwich, but the only classmate we could count for sure was DonMacLeod with his wife Pat. Then we attended Dr. Kemeny's most interesting talk in New York before a very large group of alumni. Fared a little better there with a good visit with both Howie Carter and Bill Condit. We also saw DekDavidson from a distance, but no other classmates seemed to be around. Everyone is too busy getting ready for reunion, I guess.
Speaking of reunion, that program and planned attendance is going very well. Latest reports from chairman Jack Boyle continue to be excellent. By now you have all received not only Sam Wallis's list of all the Class, but you have also received the complete schedule of events, the application and instructions from the reunion committee. As a veteran of the struggles of planning a reunion I know the committee will appreciate your prompt response and this will enable them to do a better job for all of us.
Latest news on those planning to attend th 25th is most encouraging. For example, names we haven't mentioned in earlier dispatches inelude a number of Massachusetts residents such as Dick Gagne, Bob Barton, Dick Pratt, pres Saunders, Mendy Balkin, and Jim Branch. elsewhere in New England we have had positive responses from Bill Biddle, Bob Holmes Eli Wagshul, Steve Mandel, Dick Kinnier, Ed Blair and Marty Cunningham.
We are also pleased to report some late ad ditions from spots farther away including BobAustin and John Newey from Colorado" BobNightingale from Chicago, Elliott Cates and SidSchneck from New York, George Grosshans from Los Angeles, Ed Obendorf from Cleveland, and Jack Crowell from Portland Ore.
Finally, from here and there such well known classmates as Doc Dey, John Klein, RossDaniels, Dick Brown, Jack McNary and FredMerrill have all indicated they will be joining us on June 16.
Some other news notes before racing to the post office ... Ted Fellowes has been promoted to rear admiral in the U.S. Navy. Is he our first admiral or general? Let me know. Charlie Clough has been named a director of the Bank of New Hampshire. If you run out of money during reunion he is the person to see.
The Society of Exploration Geophysicists has conferred, its 1976 Kauffman Gold Medal Award to Peter Vail of Houston, Tex. Peter received this award, named after Virgil Kauffman, as the geophysicist who has made the most significant contribution in the science of geophysical exploration during the year. The citation conferring the award outlines in some detail the vast and continuing contribution Peter has made in the science of interpreting stratigraphy from seismic data. Hearty congratulations are in order.
We are also pleased to report the appointment of Dr. Richard Carleton as cardiologist-in-chief of the Pawtucket, R.I., Memorial Hospital. Dick is also on the faculty of the Brown University Medical School and teaches at both institutions.
About two years ago we caught a news item in the local New York paper about Jim Rosenfield getting a promotion at CBS. While reporting on that promotion we wondered if CBS put out press releases on such events. We are pleased to report they do and Jim has still another promotion. He has recently been advanced from vice president, sales administration to the newly created position of vice president, national sales manager of the CBS television network. Jim joined the network sales department in 1965 and in the past twelve years he has advanced from director, daytime sales, to vice president, eastern sales, to his present position.
Less than 60 days to go. Hopefully, your affairs are in order, your contribution to the '77 Alumni Fund drive is in, your application for reunion has been forwarded, your taxes were paid, you have written at least five classmates asking them to join you in Hanover on June 16. and your New England itinerary has been planned. For it is true, as the oracle has spoke ... "It's 25 for '52 and We've Only Just Begun."
That's about it for this month. Looking forward to seeing you in June.
