A reprint of a talk given by Ted Lamb at Hanover, regarding the United Nations, has been received. Ted considers the United Nations his principal cause and he is constantly seeking ways to increase its effectiveness. His concern is the 90 percent of the UN budget which goes into economic and social problems; not the 10 percent which goes into peace-keeping. His talk emphasizes the fact that the largest bomber and the greatest number of missiles will not save the world, but that true internationalism will unite the countries of the world and make the United Nations the greatest institution on earth.

It is always good to hear from classmates a long distance from Hanover. This time it was a note, just to say "hello" to the newsletter editor and the secretary, from Hobey Holbrook in Santa Barbara, Cal.

A note has been received regarding a talk given by Mrs. Phil (Doris) Marston at the Fogg Library in York, Me., on the subject of "Writers I Have Known and Loved." She is a free lance writer and teacher of writing.

Via Harry Holmlund comes news that EdStreater has suffered a broken leg, which we hope is repaired by now.

Charlie Amelung reports that he keeps busy with church and Red Cross activities, and that Marion is president of the Senior Citizens Housing Corporation in Montclair, which is presently constructing an apartment building for middle and low income senior citizens. The Amelungs are selling their home in the Thousand Islands.

Howard Clark, who retired as an opthalmologist in 1971, in commenting on the weather we have had in the East this past winter, mentions the water shortage in California, which has necessitated rationing. If it isn't one thing, it's another.

1977 seems to be a vintage year for 50th wedding anniversaries. We find that the ArnoldGeorges, the Frank Harringtons, and the RobertRobinsons embarked on the sea of matrimony in 1927 about this time of year. To them and to others who will be celebrating this year, our congratulations.

A recently published book by NormanMaclean, A River Runs Through It, closely missed a Pulitzer Prize award. You will read more about this book of stories in the MAGAZINE. Sufficient now to say that we should be proud that Norman is a classmate.

The Class was represented at class officers weekend, May 6-7, by Jimmie Reid, Stan Chittick, Sam Lamson, Earl Daum, Dana Bent, all with wives, and Beatie Adams.

On Saturday, the executive committee of the class held a meeting. A favorable report on the condition of the treasury was submitted by Stan Chittick; likewise Earl Daum reported favorable progress on the Alumni Fund, with an increase in contributions as of the current date. Beatie Adams commented on her work with the class widows and her contacts with them by means of cards and correspondence. The move of the fall weekend to the Lake Morey Inn was unanimously endorsed, and Chince Allen commented on the improved operation of the memorial book program in choosing books related to the particular interests of the individual in whose memory they are given. We regret that Dave Dyche was unable to be present because of illness and we hope that Dave has a very rapid recovery.

Here is the latest on the fall weekend. Because Bonnie Oaks will no longer serve meals, the Averys have offered us accommodations at the Lake Morey Inn. The class executive committee have unanimously voted to make this change. The facilities will be excellent, including a new 26-room deluxe motel, and there will be ample room for our activities. The price for modified American plan will be $30 per day per person. For those of us who find it harder each year to climb the hills at Bonnie Oaks, this should also be an improvement. The date remains the same, October 22; likewise the game, Cornell. This is the last opportunity for the secretary to remind you, so set aside that weekend and send a deposit to Lake Morey Inn. The usual good time is guaranteed.

This is our last report until fall. Have a good summer, and we look forward to seeing you at Lake Morey.
