A few news items for you this month. A "Sentry" will be forthcoming later. Dot Howe and some of her family hope to take in the Columbia game on November 3 if weather is suitable. Dot is also bringing the secretary another box of class letters. As she expresses it, "Maybe there is a gem blushing unseen in the bottom folder." We hope so and thank her.
Willard Wyeth and his wife will be at the Havenwood Retirement Community until April, when they will return to their own home in Andover, N.H., for the warmer months. The couple is well and happy, especially since their plan relieves them of the problems of winter snows, heating, and shopping.
Leon Cone even after his 86th birthday finds himself and hi? wife Minnie still enjoying good health in Sun City, Fla., where they occupy a well-appointed condominium. There is plenty to do there, since the complex has an indoor and an outdoor pool, golf course, and a super recreation building. We are glad to know you two can enjoy life so much.
Reg and Ethel Smith will go from Michigan to their little house in Green Valley, Ariz., to stay until June. This is a community established by a few Dartmouth men from Cleveland, mostly from the Class of 1924. Green Valley is an appropriate name, and perhaps we should all learn more about it.
Chan and Ethel Steiger are enjoying good health and keeping active in spite of eye troubles common to us oldsters. They will be in Florida until April and hope to be able to come to our 65th reunion if there is one. We hope there will be enough of us left for such a reunion in 1982.
Howard Myers retired in 1969 as an administrative law judge for the National Labor Relations Board, but he has since been busily engaged as an arbitrator in labor-management matters. He feels that this is taking too much of his time, leaving little for golf and other enjoyable activities.
Ruth Colby has faithfully sent her husband's dues, although Carl has been in the Veterans' Hospital for two years. They did celebrate their 61st wedding anniversary this year and can boast of nine grandchildren and 20 greatgrandchildren. These young people are a great joy to Carl and Ethel, and we congratulate all the family.
Friday Bean writes: "In September, Blanche and I took a motor trip around Gaspe Peninsula. It was a beautiful trip, weather perfect, and unequalled autumn foliage just beginning to change into pastel colors. Every year we think the foliage gets more beautiful, but maybe we just appreciate it more."
Although Edmund Langmead died in September, his wife Mary sent his dues for 1978-79 and informed the secretary of the death. This was a gracious and loyal gesture which we appreciate.
"Sam" White wrote on his dues return the following:
"Vox" from Pacific Northwest, not "Clamantis"ing for anything, not "in Deserto" - anything but a wilderness out here.
This from Bellevue, Washington.
A pleasant Christmas and a rewarding New Year to all from the executive committee of the Class of 1917.
