Being stranded on a mountaintop overlooking Port-au-Prince, Haiti, is not conducive to the timely submittal of one's monthly column. But I can blame Hurricane David for my predicament. Where some of the news below seems old now, it may become ancient by the time I'm able to get it back to the Etats-Unis. For the news:

William Howey is now a personnel director at Waddell and Reed Inc. in Kansas City, Mo. W&R sells and manages the United Group of Mutual Funds. Bill and Pat have two children — Tim, ten, and Angela, eight.

John Lazarek of Pawcatuck, R.I., has been promoted to assistant vice president of Hartford National Bank and Trust Company. He is the branch manager of the Mystic River office. John is currently an officer in the Mystic Lions Club, a director of the Mystic Art Association, and he chairs the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival.

Duane Landreth is with the law firm of LaTanzi & Spaulding of Orleans, Mass. (on Cape Cod). He has recently been given the job of handling legal matters for Provincetown, Mass., the quaint little community at the tip of old Cape Cod. Duane is obviously fond of sand dunes and salty air and quaint little villages here ands there. Duane is a member of the Ohio as well as the Massachusetts Bar. He graduated from B.U. Law in 1974.

William Segel married Sharon Mackey last November in their hometown of Montpelier, Vt. They visited England and Scotland after the marriage. Bill is now in surgical practice in Berlin, Vt. If you have a sore throat, you can contact him at R.D. 4, Montpelier, Vt.

The Norton Company in Worcester, Mass., announced the appointment of Alfred Cotton Jr. as director of communications. His respon- sibilities will include public relations, advertising, sales promotion, and public affairs. (Sounds like he's the company expert in B.S.). Alfred is an alumni director of Boston University's School of Public Communication, a director of the Mohegan Boy Scout Council (what's a Weeblos?), and a corporator of the John Wardsman Higgins Amory Museum. He was elected to four consecutive terms on the Worcester school committee.

In May, Kevin Shore of Nantucket, Mass., married Susan Krueger of Concord, Mass. Kevin is president of Nantucket Seafood Company in Nantucket. He also went on a special three-week diet of oysters prior to the wedding. (I'm a clam man myself).

Werner Kuhn's letter updates us as follows: "I am now splitting my professional time between Albany, N.Y., and the Big Apple. In Albany, I have a diverse law practice ranging from civil to 'light' criminal stuff — no murders, please! In N.Y.C., I serve as national director for alcoholism of Odyssey Institute, the internationally-known health agency [that does] advocacy, prevention, and treatment in the areas of alcohol and drug abuse, child neglect and abuse, and related problems. My particular baby is ACCEPT (Alcohol Council Coordinating Education, Prevention, and Treatment), which is focusing on adolescent alcohol abuse. (Volunteers are welcome!) In the extracurricular area, I continue to be the neglectful owner and landlord of a large, three-apartment 1860 home, one of whose floors I occupy with my lover of five years. We are very much involved in the gay and lesbian rights movement. I serve as vice chair of the New York State Coalition of Gay Organizations (NYSCGO), among other posts. Would love to hear from other gay '64s (98 Willett Street, Albany, N.Y., 12210). I also serve the com- munity Bar Association Committee as board member of the Mental Health Association, the Voluntary Action Center (IMPACT) Affirmative Action Committee, and the Community Living Environments Ltd. Cheers to all."

Thanks for the letter, Werner. Bye.
