The fall class party at Lake Morey Inn on the weekend of the Holy Cross game has come and gone - a good party but disappointing in some respects. It is always more fun to see a Dartmouth team win.
One of the highlights of the weekend was the meeting of the class executive committee on Saturday morning. Presided over by DonWilbur were 14 officers and members of the executive committee, along with eight wives, widows, and other classmates.
Among matters discussed was the condition of the treasury; the balance seemed to be sufficient to cover current expenses plus the cost of the memorial book program - a tribute to Stan Chittick's handling of the finances. At present, the secretary's records show 180 living graduates and 65 non-graduates; and the treasurer's records show 262 dues-paying members, including 56 widows. The class has greatly appreciated the number of widows showing continued interest in the class, as well as the contribution by widows of $16,000 to the Alumni Fund and $46,000 to the Campaign for Dartmouth. The class is indebted to Beatie Adams for her excellent work in maintaining contact with the widows. It was voted that the fall weekend party next year be at the time of the Harvard game.
Dave Dyche and his committee were congratulated on the success of the 55th reunion, which was also a success financially. It was voted to re-publish the class directory, which was last revised in 1972. On behalf of the class, the committee expressed sorrow on the death of Kay Spaulding, who had died earlier in the week.
Dick and Pauline Morin are receiving congratulations and best wishes on their recent marriage. Pauline was the widow of JohnDaniell.
Don Wilbur has been cited as president of the Boston chapter of SCORE, which is the oldest chapter of the group in existence. Don was one. of the original members when the chapter was established 15 years ago.
Word of the death of Jeanette Gill, formerly manager of the Dartmouth Dining Association and an adopted member of the class, has been received. She was the last surviving honorary or adopted member of the class, the other two having been Professor Malcolm Keir and Professor Maurice Longhurst.
With further reference to the thoroughness and thoughtfulness of the reunion committee, a facsimile of the register, signed by all who were there, has been mailed to all those who attended the reunion.
It seems early to say this, but as you read it, that time of year will be here again. So Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
