Sure hope you all had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Our family certainly did. since our son Tom and our daughter Janet came in - the former from L.A. and the latter from Denver. It was a real treat for Ma and Pa!!!
As promised, I'll now recap the rest of the notes that Ed Brown sent me. First in the last part of the alphabet is from Bill Ramsey. He wasn't wordy, mind you, so I'll quote his entire message from the reverse of his dues bill. quote, "Still able to sign a check," end of quote. Come on. Will, I'll bet you can even write me a letter and fill me in on the Omaha doings.
Charley Strauss writes that he's living in the Lincoln Center Area in New York and is "luxuriating in concert-going and opera without any commuting problems after 25 years in Connecticut. Still working but spending more time each year at our little Casa in Southern Portugal (Albufeira)." Sounds great, Charley. His address is Apt 17-H - 315 West 70th St., New York, N.Y. 10023.
Tommy Thomas has apparently retired from law here in Chicago, because his new residence address on the back of his dues bill is: 3500 Gin Lane, Naples, Florida 33940. The name of your street rings a bell, somehow, Tommy - don't get soaked in it!!!
Jack Tobin wrote that they have completed a Children's Health Center in Minneapolis. It is the first Children's Hospital in that city. They have been open 1½ years and are already planning an expansion. Jack is on the board and is the first co-chief of the professional staff of the Hospital. He says it is the culmination of 20 years of effort by many people and the Center is now regarded as a model for such institutions. Congratulations, Jack.
Finally, Dick Wells, vice president, sales, for the Minnesota Rubber Company, says he's still kicking and, "certainly would have liked to have been at Reunion. Enjoyed the pictures (thanks to Bill Scherman) and the Book." We missed you too, Dick. He enclosed an advertisement from a trade magazine with a great picture of Dick looking like a Vice President should. You are still handsome!!!
With that I bid adieu to all of your nice mail, Ed Brown. Thanks much.
Now a bit of new mail. Had a Christmas card from Bud Yallalee, congratulating me on my new job as "scribbler." Says he is remaining in Maine until he freezes. I know where he could go then - but I won't say it, Bud. He also said that Clarence Brown phoned the monthly Dartmouth luncheon group at South Freeport. "Bill Emerson, Damariscotta (there's that town again - see November notes) either travels too much or doesn't like the chow." How about dropping in, Bill, and surprising Bud. Bud also said Dean Chamberlain (English Dept. when we were there) is a regular. All in air about 17 fellows meet and eat. Any of you in the area ought to plan to attend. Thanks for the news, and keep it coming.
From the national Zeta Psi magazine, comes an article about and a picture of Howie Gussenhoven. He's really Walter H., but we knew him more informally at the Zete House. Gus has been named to the new position of general director, Middle East and Africa, by General Motors Overseas Corp. He had been in charge of Latin American operations, but these are 'increasingly more important markets." In addition to this recent appointment, he is executive vice president of the GM Overseas Corp. Congrats.
Ex-Pres. Tom Beers and his Mary sent a card to June and me and along with it, a newsy note. Says they saw the Smoyers, Schermans and Davies at a "tailgate picnic in the Bucolic asphalt atmosphere of a mid-Phila. parking lot before the Penn game- They also saw Jim Boyles and his wife in the stands. Tom and Mary were a one for Xmas as the two married kids were at e other parents" - they're called "In-laws," Tom - not "other parents" and the younger son. Dick, had some college research experiments at Michigan. He's studying Behavior edification Psychology. Tom told him to get married, raise a couple of kids, and he would be an expert in Behavior Modification. Touche, Thomas, and thanks for your note and your greeting.
Betty and Ted Gregory sent a Christmas card and show that they live in Branford, Connecticut, 06405. The Zete's are fine in Wilmette, Ted. Come on out and I'll prove it.
All for now. Sec you from Florida for the next issue. We leave January 16 and will stay through April. There will be no excuses for any of you, however, because all of our first class mail gets forwarded — so write when you can to the address above and I'll acknowledge it from Sunny Climes. If you prefer, write to me at; 20 Celestial Way, Juno Beach, Florida 33408.
Bye!!!
