Tom Rand writes that last fall he re-married. He and his bride Carolyn honeymooned in the Hanover area. He was able to work out on the Dartmouth track (where did he get the energy?) preparing for the Marine Corps Marathon held in Washington in November. Tom says "there is nothing like a honeymoon to get you in shape. The activities prolong your stamina and endurance."
Ed Gingras reports that all is well in San Francisco. He says that Dave Calder, his old college roommate, has accepted a job as director of the U.S. Agency for International Development's medical aid to Indonesia. Dave will be in charge of $100 million in medical assistance. Since Dave got his M.D. from Cornell in 1968, he has lived in India, Korea, Peru, and Brazil as a director of Project Hope.
Dennis Kundsin has joined Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corp (California) as director of the strategic planning department. He will coordinate Fairrhild's corporate and business strategic plans. Dennis comes to Fairchild from Corning Glass where he spent ten years in a variety of manufacturing, finance, and marketing positions.
Lee Chilcote has been elected vice president, general counsel, and secretary of First Union, a real estate equity trust which owns large, prime-quality, high-rise office buildings and enclosed malls in Cleveland. Previously he was an associate with the law firm of Thompson, Hine and Flory, specializing in real estate law. Lee is also a director of the Cleveland Jaycees.
David Hope writes that he and his wife Winnie had their first child, a son named Henry, on February 3, 1978.
Ed Temple is currently senior EDP auditor for Sun Company in Radnor, Pa. Ken Ritchie is an attorney for Sun. Ed's main hobby is sailing his 37-foot Hunter out of Ocean City, N.J.
Ed Williams writes, "I have just been named to the 48-person Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee which will be responsible for organizing and conducting the summer Olympics in 1984. This is a volunteer position so I still retain my position at Milbank, Tweed, Hudley and McCloy, a New York city law firm." He is one of 12 members of the board of directors. (For those with a short memory, Ed was a member of the 1968 U.S. Olympic biathlon team.)
Carl Du Rei was promoted by Arthur Andersen to partner. He has been transferred to the Chicago world headquarters for two years. Don Warnecke was also made a partner in the accounting firm's Charlotte office and will be transferred to Hong Kong (is that a promotion?). Carl's wife Amy is expecting their fourth child in October.
And news from Nashua, N.H.: Bob Field of the firm of Hamblett and Kerrigan Professional Association taught a course on "Recognizing Legal Malpractice," designed to alert lawyers to actions which constitute or could cause malpractice. This course was part of the "Continuing Legal Education" courses at the New Hampshire Bar Association's mid- winter meeting.
