A chill wind has settled upon us and winter is truly here once again. In this month's mailbag is word that Garret Rasmussen and his wife Gigi had a baby boy, William Middendorf Rasmussen, on July 20. Young Bill weighed in at eight lbs eight oz.
Dave Reingold writes: "Colin Walter Reingold was born on August 14 and most of the time he seems happy that he was. So are we. I'm enjoying life teaching at Middlebury College and Kay is establishing her reputation as a teacher of French cooking."
From Christopher Kirk, word that he and his wife Suzie "are expecting our second child and first bankruptcy in January. John Pfeifle, wife Mary Ellen, and three sons are successfully showing, breeding, and raising Suffolk sheep in Bradford, N.H. He seems to get the most out of a day, which includes managing the Universal' Packaging Division of Kraft in Bow, N.H. And Mike Diaz and wife Cathy are moving to Taiwan. He says it is a corporate move but actually it's the only lacrosse league where he can still score."
Steve White recently joined the firm of Hudon, Clark, Hooks, Stephenson & O'Connor in San Antonio. His wife Patricia is expecting their first (his third) child this month.
Roger and Sheryl Faix's daughter Rebecca Ann, born August 20, 1979, is now a strapping 16-month-old. After three years at Duke, Roger accepted a position with the pediatric faculty at the University of Michigan as a neonatologist beginning next July. Roger sends word that "Pete Federici is in the process of establishing himself in the practice of urology in Vineland, N.J. Mike DePetrillo and his wife Lil are in Schenectady, N.Y., where Mike is a practicing anesthesiologist. Their son Michael recently celebrated his first birthday. Bill Powers is involved in research on the subject of the pathogenesis of strokes at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. Jon Spingarn remains on the math faculty at Georgia Tech."
Greg Karnaze is in his fourth and last year of a radiology residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and will be finishing next June. John Schoell started a private, hospital-based pulmonary practice last July in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Dave Sullivan is working for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group as an internist. He and his wife are enjoying Dodger baseball and racquetball. Their sons Stephen (age three) and Jeffrey (age one) are growing fast and keeping them on their toes.
Summer Solstice, a first photoplay by our own Bill Phillips, is being produced by WCVBTV in Boston and includes a top cast. His script was selected from 600 entries in "Project 5," the station's contest to solicit original material from New England residents. (Our thanks to Cap Palmer '23 for this item.)
Class treasurer Mark Totman is "having a ball doing management (operations) consulting for high technology electronics firms in the Northeast. I hope to replace the fun of Aspen skiing with some ice-boating this winter." Mark's former roommate, Mac Barrett, is presently director of alumni relations for Loyola College in Baltimore. He was master of ceremonies for Loyola's World Lecture Series this past spring which featured Barbara Walters, Henry Kissinger, David Brinkley, and Gerald Ford. Loyola was named the recipient of the 1980 Drew Pearson Award for hosting the nation's outstanding lecture series.
Chuch Voas received a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville last May and is currently filling a two-year appointment at Yale as a J. W. Gibbs instructor.
Lew Smiley is spending a month with Jeff Kosak in Anglet, France, working on his French and helping Jeff as a coach in their hockey program.
