FIFTH REUNION
Classmates came from such exotic places as San Diego, Seattle, Thunder Bay, and Norwich, Vt., for the fifth reunion of the class of 1976 on June 19-21. Although they were rookies at the reunion regimen, everyone seemed to get into the spirit and enjoy themselves.
The strong spirit of the class was evident in the attendance figures as well as around the class tent. Returning classmates totaled 274, easily breaking the earlier record of 247 for a fifth year reunion established by the class of 1974. Total attendance, including spouses, friends and families, was 380. In recognition of the fine turnout, reunion chairperson/treasurer Judy Burrows Csatari was presented a silver bowl sponsored by the class of '53- We ail owe Judy our sincere thanks for her efforts in organizing a fine reunion. For those who missed it or can't remember, here's a summary of the goings-on.
On Friday afternoon the crowd around the class tent in front of Butterfield Hall grew as new arrivals reached Hanover. In the early evening a cocktail party was held at the tent followed by the alumni parade to Thompson Arena for dinner. The class then readjourned to the tent for some extended socializing. By midnight it seemed like the clock had been turned back to 1976; every time you turned around there was a familiar face.
On Saturday the weather held long enough for a class picnic at Storr's Pond, then turned sour, forcing the class cocktail party and dinner inside at Alumni Gym. Class historian, and a dedicated roller skater even before Linda Ronstadt and roller disco, Sara Hoagland Hunter recited an updated version of Tennyson's "Charge of the Light Brigade," somehow managing to include the name of almost everyone in attendance. Saturday night, the brothers of Theta Delt were kind enough (a contradiction in terms?) to allow the class to hold a band from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Reports are that one Satch "I don't just wear these platforms for height" Orlando cut quite a mean figure in the always elegant Theta Delt ballroom.
Sunday morning saw the skies clear a bit, but heads remained cloudy throughout a brunch at the DOC house, which featured entertainment by the Dartmouth Woodwinds and Aires. Classmates then went their separate ways, vowing to return for their tenth reunion in 1987,
The regular class column will return next month. Please forward any and all news of yourself and other classmates to the address above. Otherwise, I'll have to resort to the National Enquiresque practice of "If you don't know, make it up."
On behalf of Career and Employment Services, I would like to bring you up to date on the questionnaire, "Class of 1976: Men and Women of Dartmouth," which we mailed to you in June. To date (August), we have received nearly 400 surveys an encouraging return of 39 per cent. We urge you to return yours if you have not already done so, in order to make the sample as valid as possible. We will begin the analysis this fall, and a full report will be available later in the year. CES thanks all of you for providing information that only the first coeducational, and Dartmouth Plan class can. If you need another questionnaire, please contact Susan Calver, assistant director at CES, 206 College Hall, Hanover, N.H. 03755.
