Live, from the Snowbelt, it's Monday night Siberia. Welcome to tropical Chicago. Checking the statistics, it's a pleasant 27 below at O'Hare, warming up to 21 below at the lakefront. Wind chill an invigorating 88 below. Even cabin fever doesn't keep you warm. Fortunately the dog teams (no, not the Bears) have gotten through, and the mail pouch is full.

Sara Hoagland Hunter, reportedly now ensconced in Williamstown, Mass., has left the media world of the Christian Science Monitor but apparently still reads the papers. She reports thai Dave Shribman has had several front-page reports in the New York Times the last few months while Jamey Hampton garnered rave reviews for his dancing with the Pilobolus company

Stephanie Valar passed along a note she received from Michael Shnayerson, who, after working at the Santa Fe Reporter and Time, is now the editor of a monthly magazine called Avenue that is distributed to "Upper East Siders" in N.Y.C. by limousine. We have the same thing in my neighborhood, only for some reason it's called Alley. Mike says hello to Dave LeGrande and any of his sordid crew.

Next up is Deborah Schwind Young, who was married to, and, coincidentally, married, Thomas Young in May of 1981. Deborah's now with the tax department of Harter, Secrest and Emery in Rochester, N. Y., and she has real nice handwriting.

This month's Timbuktu award goes to Paul Lacke, who sent a card from Tokyo, Japan. Paul founded Tokyo International Friendship Promotion Company, which specializes in translations and language instruction, and married the lovely Yoko Fukaya. (That brings to mind an old joke about F Troop that good taste and a probablethrottling by my editor prevent me from relating here.) Paul would like to hear from Paul Levin, Eric Madison, Fitchet, Feakins, Stark, Chiarella Eldridge, Monkman, and the "H.F.D. gang." Paul opened his letter, "Dear Mr. Doyle." Only time I've heard that before it was followed by, "Please step out of the car."

Runner-up in the "where are they now" sweepstakes is Bob Hurst, who wrote from the U.S.S.Barry, a destroyer on patrol in the Persian Gulf. For some reason Bob doesn't have any news of other classmates, but he would like to tell the Heorot boys that he actually met someone from Ripon, Wise. Bob has just been named commanding officer of an 82-foot Coast Guard cutter. He's really drawn a tough post, too - Woods Hole, Mass. If you see some suspicious character in a trench coat on the beach, give him a break. Bob, it's proably just Tom "Flash" Reinhart trolling per usual.

Jim Crawford writes that at the end of November he received a Ph.D. in physiology which he plans to team with an M.D. by next Christmas before pursuing a career in medical research Along the way, Jim and his wife Aleta have had two children - Bristol James, who's almost two. and Jennes Ives, who's nearing the nine-mont.. mark. Sincere congratulations on your efforts.

Larry Frank informs us that he's recently moved to Austin, Tex., after completing his internship in internal medicine at the University of Florida. Larry will now be a physician for the U.S. Air Force.

Lastly, I must report that I was lucky enough to scare 'up a couple of tickets to the Brent and Phyllis show, a.k.a. the Super Bowl. Our class was admirably represented by Reggie Williams, who played his usual outstanding rightside linebacker for the Cincinnati Bengalithough the Bengals came up short, their turnaround from last year was truly amazing, and Reggie's play throughout the year was a major factor His accomplishments are something that all Ivy League athletes should be proud of.

Carson's got Cheryl Tiegs and Brooke Shields on for one of his theme shows, nude aerobics, so I'd better run. Keep in touch.
