Bright autumn leaves. Mild temperatures. The presidential campaign in full swing.A lousy Dartmouth football season. I'm going to miss the Harvard game today for the first time since 1969, and there are at least one million leaves on my lawn which need to be raked. Oh well, I think I'll just stoke the fire, sit back, and report to the class.
First, I have news about several classmates who are members of the bar. Willy Koppenheffer is practicing law in the Upper Valley with the office of Gene Struckhoff in Hanover. Francis Sparagna is practicing personal injury litigation and civil litigation in Encino, Calif. I remember his wife, Diana, once not- ing that "he actually sues anything that moves." And Mitch Kroner is a partner in the law firm of Rudolph, Andrews, and Kroner in Georgetown, Mass. Mitch and his wife, Judy, have a son, Todd Paul, and they live in Groveland, Mass. Mitch isn't too far from Andy Caffrey, who is a partner with his father in the firm of Caffrey and Caffrey in Andover, Mass. And finally, rumor has it that Bob Glovsky, Also a member of the bar in Mass., has recently married. I'll try to have more details about that in the near future.
Don Pavelka and his wife, Kim, are residing in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area in Minnesota. I saw Don at the reunion as I'm sure many of you did, and I believe that he is close to concluding his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the St. Paul-Ramsey Medical Center in St. Paul, Minn.
At last report, Bill Gallagher was still with IBM in the Chicago area, and Steve Bolster was professoring in music at Berea College in Kentucky.
I haven't heard from Frank Munn in a while, and I missed him at our reunion. However, at last report he had earned his M.B.A. from the University of Tulsa and was hoping to use that degree towards a management and consulting position in the area of computer software in Tulsa. Frank and his wife, Jan, have a son, Justin, and a daughter, Claire.
Erik Jebsen is reportedly working for the Chase Manhattan Bank in London. Erik has responsibility for the Ship Finance Division of the Chase, with specific responsibility for Scandinavia. He joins another classmate of ours, Craig Colbert, a former all American swimmer at Dartmouth, who is now an investment banker with Goldman, Sachs in London.
Other news from abroad is that Johann Tomasson, at last report, had returned to Iceland, where he is specializing in family medicine and public health in Reykjavik. My last known address for Johann is Espigerdi No. 20, Reykjavik, Iceland, for any classmates who wish to get in contact with him.
I'm a little out of date with Bob Varsha, but according to a note which was sent to our former class treasurer, Joe Powers, Bob has moved out of the legal profession and into radio and television broadcasting. The last word from Bob was that he was working as a newsman and sportscaster for Ted Turner's WTBS Superstation in Atlanta as well as for WCNN radio.
Another person I missed at our tenth reunion was Ron Falk, who is now a doctor. Unless he has moved on, my understanding is that Ron is either in the midst of or has completed a research fellowship in nephrology in Minnesota. Ron met his wife, Catherine Hoffmann, in Chapel Hill, N.C., where they were fellow residents in internal medicine. However, I did see an old friend of Ron's, and an old friend of mine, GeorgeMiddendorf, at the tenth reunion. George is alive and well and is a professor at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
That's all the news that's fit to print. Please keep those cards and letters coming in. Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.
