Had a good visit with Billy Riley in January during the Dartmouth University of Lowell hockey game. Lowell, coached by his son, defeated the Green 4—3 in another of a long string of setbacks for our team this year. Billy looked great, works out regularly including much tennis, and still is pedaling Budweiser in the Boston area. He reports that BeV and the family are all doing well and that two of his grandsons are playing hockey in secondary schools. Wouldn't it be great to have a third-generation Riley playing for Dartmouth in the near future!
Speaking of hockey, and remembering the glory days of Riley, Rondeau, and Harrison, etc., it is apparent that the current situation is badly in need of a shot in the arm. To this observer the key to improvement is the recruitment of good competitive players who are academically qualified. The way those of you who share my concern can help is by joining the athletic department's Athletic Sponsors Program. The funds raised in this effort are used to help defray the expense of bringing these prospects to Hanover for an official Ivy League and NCAA-sanctioned visit. Since we have one of the very best college hockey facilities in the nation complementing our beautiful campus, a prospect's visit should be a major help in a decision to enroll.
A February letter from John McClintock, in the form of a 45 th Reunion progress report, prompts me that it's not too early for each of us to begin thinking of, and planning for, another fine get-together with classmates, spouses, and friends of '45 and '47. June 1991 will be here all too soon! Along with golf, tennis, and swimming at the Quechee Lakes Club in Vermont, there will be dancing to "big band" music and other activities to insure that our three classes have a varied assortment of interesting and fun things to do to make this one of the best reunions ever. Needless to say, there won't be a great number of reunions left for us, so we are going to try real hard to promote attendance at this one. Please give John and Edie a hand by starting now to sound out your friends about coming back in June 1991, and be sure to put these dates on your calendar as well.
With April here let's not forget the job Welles Fendrich and his crew of class agents are doing for us in the annual Alumni Fund. Dollars and participation are the key elements and we're hoping for significant improvements in each. We should take a back seat to no class in supporting the Fund. In Wells and Co. we have great leadership, so please give them all the support possible.
