Dave Allen found himself faced with other commitments which suggested to him that, in the best interests of the class, he should not continue on as class president. In an orderly transition, our able search committee, headed by Moose Morton and Bill Colehower, succeeded in recruiting Peter Jaffe to fill out the remainder of Dave's term. Concurrently, Peter will be completing his third year of a three-year term as the class's representative on the Alumni Council. As what may have been his first official act as class president, Peter made the arrangements for a class of 1959 cocktail party on campus following this year's Harvard game. In the dual event that (a) this issue reaches you before October 18, 1986, and (b) you plan to be in Hanover on that date, we alert you that the cocktail party will be held in the Smoyer Lounge, which is located in the Thompson Arena.

Speaking of class presidents, Jack Nason was recently honored by the College as a recipient of the Alumni Award, which is awarded for services to the college and to one's community, with emphasis on the former. Jack is the first member of the Class of 1959 and only the 305 th alumnus in the history of the College to be so honored. Jack continues to serve the College, among other ways, in its admissions efforts as area enrollment director for Pennsylvania and as district enrollment director for Eastern Pennsylvania. Congratulation, Jack! The recognition is well deserved!

Since 1980, Jim Sanford has been running a successful business called "The Catered Clambake," operating out of New York's Upper West Side. Jim also served the Martha's Vineyard area in that business for 10 years, providing, as he does now, what he describes as "authentic New England clambakes," catered for groups from 40 to 1000 people. His business has been featured in the New YorkTimes, in the New York Daily News, and on CBS Television. Jim says that the seasonal nature of his business allows him considerable freedom to travel. Last winter, he spent some 10 weeks visiting Australia and New Zealand. While in Australia, Jim attended a "Super Bowl party" hosted by Bill Watson '60, who is with a bank called Boston-Australia, Ltd., in Melbourne. Among the guests was Mariella Lamal '87, whose presence in Australia was made known to Bill by the College, and whose adventures scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef inspired Jim to take a five-day certified course in that sport. Jim described as fantastic the seven dives he took as part of the five-day course, one of which was at night.

About a year ago, Tom Margetts, senior vice president, human resources, at Purolator Corporation, Basking Ridge, N.J., was elected to serve on the board of trustees of New Jersey Dental Service Plan, Inc. In his human resources position, Tom is responsible for employee benefits, recruiting, training and development, employee relations and communications, and safety. He is an attorney and a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School. Tom, who lives with his wife, Donna, and four children in Morristown, N.J., is active in a number of community organizations and served on the board of trustees of the Frost Valley (N.Y.) YMCA, the Morris Museum, the New Jersey Camp for Blind Children, and the United Way of Morris County. In addition, he is a member of the board of directors of the Morristown Memorial Hospital, and served as mayor of Harding Township from 1976 through 1983.

Speaking of boards of directors, HarryShaw has been named chairman of Huffy Corporation, Dayton, Ohio, a maker of bicycles and other products, where he will continue as chief executive.

After many successful years in the banking business, Vin Sawyer has parlayed his data processing experience into a great new opportunity in the life insurance business. Six months ago he was appointed to the position of director of productivity with First Colony Life in Lynchburg, Va. First Colony is a whollyowned subsidiary of Ethyl Corporation in Richmond. It looks like Vin has picked a winner. He candidly admits that it was none of his doing, but points out that the parent corporation was recently given an award by the U.S. Senate for its success in the area of productivity.

To bring you up to date on my own activities, I recently moved from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, where I adjudicated equal employment opportunity (EEO). cases, to the headquarters of the Defense Logistics Agency (the fourth largest military agency behind army, navy and air force), where I advise management on cases related to EEO and personnel law. As an active member of the American Bar Association, I recently contributed to the updating of Schlei and Grossman's Employment DiscriminationLaw, an important treatise in my field. Now that I've told you a little about myself, how about doing the same and letting us know what's new with you, your families, your classmates! Look forward to hearing from you soon.
