President Freedman's installation gave me a few moments on the Inn porch with Art and Esther Nighswander and Heinie and Margaret Richardson. I had a glimpse of Walt and Marion Wilson and a short walk with Gus and Mary Wiedenmayer but lost track of both of them. Bill Andres and Dud Orr were there a day early and doing fine. It was interesting to visit with several new alums from the class of 1987.
John Dickey was brought to the ceremony on a bed. The Dickey family were in the front row and were specially acknowledged.
Seeing the Richardsons led me to call up a favorite teacher classmate, Earl Lister. Earl is a joy to talk with in spite of his having suffered a small stroke last spring. As I meet students and faculty the more I realize our teachers may by 1929's finest products.

Duke Barto writes as our "Southern Stringer" about seeing their granddaughter graduate with the Andreses' grandson in the class of '87. He adds, "As your senior by 17 days allow me to provide a bit of wisdom. An old black man stated that 'old age ain't nothing but some figgers somebody put down, and you don't have to pay no attention to it.' "
