140 North Broadway #F-12 Irvington, NY 10533
Last month I promised further word on address changes:
Starting with Joe Swensson, it wasn't a move, just needed a new P.O. box because the volume of their mail increased so heavily after retirement. Only move he and Biz plan is a visit to Europe.
Jim Ballard reports he is happy about the move to Black Mountain, N.C. He and Teal find it to be a nice retirement area, with Asheville attractions nearby.
Bob Offenbach recently moved in same complex to new apartment overlooking the Framingham Country Club. He is still working in Boston as a "headhunter" for Management Recruiters (do they have to have hair, Bob?). But with shorter hours now, he and Millie have more time for their favorite hobby, duplicate bridge, and for golf.
Rena Moore, Ed's widow, made the traumatic decision to move out of her treasured home on wooded mountaintop and back to civilization, getting a condo in Walnut Creek retirement community. She's adjusted and likes it—two daughters and grandchildren nearby. Rena reports that the 1934 class baby, Ed III, has gone into political arena in Tucson, elected to County Board of Supervisors in landslide victory over incumbent of 27 years. Congratulations!
It's a coin toss for Line Daniels. He and Carla spend almost equal time in Delray Beach and in Chevy Chase—with daughter living in Florida and son in Maryland. He says we can give Maryland top billing for now, with gardening and tennis enjoyed in either place.
Frank Colten has not moved from Delaware, just a street address added, but his life has undergone the changes that our years often bring. He retired ten years ago from General Foods, and five years ago from consulting when his wife became ill. Fortunately they have five daughters and families who zero in on Dover regularly.
Our lone resident of Wyoming, BobSmith, assures me that Buffalo will always be home base. It's where he and his brother have run a working ranch since day one. But Bob and Betty decided Tucson would provide a nice winter alternative, now have apartment there.
After Gordon Haverkampf retired as financial consultant three years ago, the large co-op where he and Fran now live was smart enough to require him to serve on finance committee. He says when complaints from the 265 families get too heavy they slip off to Alaska, Hawaii, Florida, or the Amazon—or check out their daughters and grandchildren. Chicago is going to remain their preferred home base.
George Ellis not only verified that Osterville, Mass., is now the main residence except for winter months at Sanibel Island and summer months at Kennebunkport— but also provided the happy news of his marriage to Rosamund, a lifelong resident of Cape Cod.
We're in the football season now, so here's a memory quiz you can kick around: who was the first '34 to start on the varsity?
