The ideas of September are here and there is little news of classmates other than the hope that the mini-reunion on September 16-18 will develop news for next month.Ditto the mini-mini in Greensboro, N.C., at the Moose and Joan Rowan home, where anticipated guests at one time or another include John Gooding, Howard Germain, Alan Herrick (adopted classmates), and Leggats. The December report is bound to have news of both events, which will feature golf, football, and sociability in no particular order.
For future reference, in hope that it will bring you to Hanover for the fall reunion, there were 11 more classmates at the 1987 executive committee meeting than in 1986. You are all invited to both the reunion and the meeting. And September weather in New England is usually superb. Think about it for 1989.
We are happy to report that Vic Smith and his agents persuaded classmates to give $98,000-plus to the Alumni Fund, which is well over the $95,000 goal. Congratulations to Vic and a reminder that the 1988-89 campaign has .started and we can help out with support before the end of the year.
A close friend visited with Lefty andCarol Grunditz this past weekend on the New Jersey shore and reports that both are well and that Lefty is working happily for Allied Chemical with no thought of retirement.
Some of you may wonder what is going on at Dartmouth because the national press seems to jump on a lot of negatives and not too many positives. A recent conversation with two 1988 graduates, one of whom is a niece, indicates that their experiences were generally good and that they were happy to have gone there. One might not agree with all their thinking, e.g. changes in "Men of Dartmouth," but we still have the option of singing the words we .know (and can remember). Dartmouth has changed, and while we may not like all that is different, it is still a small college that we can love.
Now that the busy summer and fall season have disappeared take a few minutes to let me know what goes on in your retirement or in your continuing business activities.
