"Dartmouth Today," the new video magazine published three times a year for VCRs, is worth seeing. In last fall's issue President Freedman, speaking to the students at the convocation in September, said, "Not all of you can be senators, or governors, congressmen, or ambassadors, not all of you can stride across the national stage of public events, but everyone of you can make effective contributions to the quality of life in the communities in which you live." An example of such contributions to a community was the recognition of JackCostello in Lowell, Mass., when he was presented the 1988 An Wang award. Jack is the publisher of The Sun, one of the strongest evening newspapers in New England. Jack said, "We want this newspaper to stand for something. We want this newspaper to applaud the good that people do and to expose wrongdoing or violations of the public trust." Congratulations, Jack; that's what President Freedman was talking about.

1937 was well represented with ten people at the 1988 Class Officers Weekend. Many classes have developed worthwhile projects and this subject will be on the agenda at our class meeting the day of the Penn game in Hanover. Mini-reunion cochairmen Johannessen and Blaisdell promise us a great weekend on September 15-16. Put those dates on your calendar and enjoy the beauty of fall in New Hampshire. The class meeting will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, and the presentation of the "Class of 1937 Honor Benches" will take place at 11:30 a.m. close to the North Courtyard of Hood Museum

Ben Doran and classmates will have returned from the '37 trip to Alaska on the U.S. Universe by the time you read this column. You will help the planning of future trips by filling out the survey sent to you in May. We are leaders in organizing class trips and many other classes are asking Ben how to do it.

The Barbary Coast picture on the April Dartmouth calendar and our note about it in the April column proves that the column is read. Frank Danzig wrote to tell us that three class members were in the picture: Frank was on trumpet, Don Pease on saxophone, and Bob McCoy on drums. If you don't have a calendar, you can see the same picture in the Aegis.

Lynn Tracy, one of our Dartmouth scholars, wrote that she survived the first year of law school and recently became engaged to Greg Nerland '86 who is also a student at Hastings in California. The wedding is planned for August 5, 1989, at Aquinas House in Hanover.

We regret to report the death of DonaldE. O'Brien on April 19, of Roger G. Allen on June 11, and of Charles S. Fowler on June 5. Full notices in this or a subsequent issue.
