You'd think with all of the garbage that washed up on the New Jersey and Long Island shores this summer we'd have lots of dirt to send along. We don't. But there are a few items gleaned from the papers of late.
MEET THE PRESS: Well, maybe not the TV program press, but Carl Reed was appointed vice president of Holling Press in Buffalo last spring. He's been with the firm since 1981. He and Nancy (Eddy Road, Colden, NY 14033) have three children, Carl, Jessica, and Jeffrey '76.

Meritor Financial Group recruited Roger Hillas, "the respected and seasoned chairman of Pittsburgh-based PNC Financial Corp.," to take over the troubled thrift. Meritor is parent of PSFS, one of the nation's largest thrift institutions. Rog resigned as chairman of PNC where he had been for 37 years and chief exec since 1973. Giants fans, please note: "He was instrumental in persuading the Philadelphia Eagles football team not to leave town a few years ago." Oh, well.
LEGAL BEAGLE: No, Snoopy didn't join us. But the newspapers had Lee Sarokin in the limelight again a few months ago as he presided over the case being argued against the liability claims of a lungcancer victim's husband versus three tobacco companies. Lee was quoted in a couple of papers, including the Op Ed page of The New York Times: "The evidence... permits the jury to find a tobacco industry conspiracy, vast in its scope, devious in its purpose, and devastating in its results."
was campaign finance chairman for Sen. Bill Bradley, and was nominated to the federal bench in 1979. He has had several "highprofile cases," including the one in which he overturned the murder conviction of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter.
Regretfully, we must report the passing of Stan Nelson last spring and Ted Prime in June. Condolences to their families and many friends.
That's it for now. See you again before the great pumpkin comes around. Good grief Charlie Brown!
