Savings and loan institutions need all the good management talent they can get these days, and Naples Federal (Florida) got just that when it recently named Carl Palmer as president and chief operating officer. Carl joins the 43-branch organization after some 25 years in the commercial banking area (Chemical Bank of New York and Southeast Bank in Miami). He plans to move the healthy Naples Federal more into the consumer and commercial lending fields with less emphasis on the troubled S&L segment.
In another financially troubled area— Massachusetts higher education—PaulTsongas was recently named to head the state's Board of Regents. The board is responsible for 29 campuses, 20,000 employees, 180,000 students, and a $8OO million budget. Dubbed the "Mona Lisa of Galilee," the mosaic portrait has been the subject of several television specials and will be on display in April at Jerusalem's Israel Museum. Rick and his wife, Carol (Wellesley '64), are both professors of archaeology at Duke University in Durham, N.C., ana co-directors of the Duke-funded Mona Lisa dig.
