From the concrete jungle of New York City to the military installations of Western Europe to the crowded sidewalks of Beijing, the class of 1987 is certainly roaming around this girdled earth.
I suppose I'll start with the international news. People tell me that they're tired of hearing about New York anyway. Mary Crawford McGriff wrote to me from Alzey, West Germany, where she lives with her new husband, Lt. Sammie McGriff. The two were married at the end of the year before setting off for Europe. Mary reports that the welcome mat is out for any classmates who might be in the neighborhood.
The get-married-and-go-to-Europe schtick is catching on. DavidMyers and his wife, Kelley, are living in Switzerland following their December wedding. In fact, they were married on the same day as Mary and Sammie. I see a pattern here. Anyway, David is consulting for Arthur Andersen and Co. overseas, and I'm sure he's hating every minute of it.
Skip Bogardus rounds out the international contingent in Beijing. Skip teaches English at the Beijing Forestry Institute ("Repeat after me, class: 'Onlyyou can prevent..."). He makes his way around the city on a new bicycle, a gift from class of 1949 secretary Quentin Kopp. We class secretaries are pretty generous, you know.
Back in the suburbs of Philadelphia, David Huth has been promoted to financial analyst for Intracorp. That's not bad for someone who confesses that he barely knew where the Economics Department was on campus. David enjoys the work and avoids the classification of yuppie by overspending himself into perpetual debt. He should work in Washington.
Wendy Becker is on the move again. She was sent to Jacksonvile, Fla., for two months of sales training for Procter & Gamble this year. Upon her return to Cincinnati Wendy will be an assistant brand manager for ... well, I won't say the name, but it's those square scented paper things that you put in the drier with your laundry. Get the picture? I thought so.
An up-and-coming entrepreneur Josh Rich has begun his own business, called Rock Ads, in New Hampshire. Josh writes, records, and produces musical advertisements for companies in the Upper Valley. He has used his earnings to invest in sound equipment, and word is getting around about his work. Josh was featured in a December Valley Business Journal article focusing on new businesses. He majored in economics and music—how perfect!
Meg Crone is climbing the ladder at Clarke & Co., a public relations firm in Boston. She has been promoted to account specialist and will be helping to manage accounts such as Faneuil Hall and Pharmacists Against Drug Abuse. Christine Baker works for a chemical company in New Jersey, while Christine Wichers is busy at the Public Defender's Office in New York before heading to law school. In Los Angeles, Nathan Gilliatt brings his WDCR/WFRD experience to a local radio station as he completes his master's degree in communications.
