Our mini-reunion was a real plus for '34. The team did not whip Penn, but we had 25 wives and widows added to 28 classmates, and all enjoyed the happy hours and dinners on Friday and Saturday evenings and were part of our Executive Committee gathering at Smoyer Lounge before the game.
Class officers reported on items of momerit. The most important item, of course, was the annual treasurer's report. EdBrown confirmed that we have paid all bills and are still solvent. Most everyone sends in their dues when billed, and all classmates and wives and our widows receive the '34 Newsletter and Alumni Magazine.
The Schermans were not present on Saturday (a wedding to attend). Bob Engelman reported on our record Alumni Fund for 1990-Bob and Stan Smoyer were applauded by the College for their leadership in that drive. Art Leonard told us about several new '34 bequests to the College, including life income trusts, an option a number of '34s have used.
As your secretary, I provided a few statistics—like the fact that we have 49.9 percent of our '34 class still around, while 36 percent is the average. And at no surprise, our number-one state for primary residence is now Florida, with 49. Then comes Massachusetts with 42, New York 34, Connecticut 24, New Hampshire 19, California 18, Illinois 16, New Jersey 15, Ohio 9, and Pennsylvania 7. That's our top ten.
Now to correct a mistake that a '33 was first to point out to me. It was BernardLoveman, not Walter Reichert, who left Hanover early and got his degree at N.Y.U. Walter, an economics major, got his degree at Dartmouth in 1934. Sorry, my notes from conversations in Indianapolis got merged. Happy Holidays.
