The holiday mail brought wonderful family newsletters from Rob Dressier and Ralph Staley. Rob is still in Fort Lauderdale with his wife, Patricia, and their young children, J.P. and Katie. Saying that Rob has been busy is an understatement. After five years as mayor of Fort Lauderdale, Rob lost a close election for the state senate. He is now serving a six-year term on the Board of Regents of the State University System to which he was appointed by Governor Martinez. This all is in addition to his full-time legal career. Last year Rob began his own law practice after leaving his former firm. He specializes in probate and estate planning, along with some client representation in governmental matters. With all of this going on, I wondered how Rob managed the trip to Ireland and other extensive family activities that made the Dressier newsletter so interesting.
Ralph and Laura Staley are still in Wilmington, Del., where they both do research for DuPont. Daughters Sash and newborn Hannah are obviously the center of the Staley household. Ralph's letter presents a very thought-provoking description of the problems of finding appropriate day care, an issue that interests me. The school which I head has addressed this problem (with excellent results) by running an on-site day care center for our faculty and staff. If any of you are comtemplating such a program in your businesses, I would be happy to share our experiences.
Your secretary owes an apology to Erik Joh. A prankster at work at the fall minireunion seems to have amended Erik's biography, which I then shared with you in a recent issue. Erik, who now lives in Boynton Beach, Fla., has been an active football referee for 15 years. He has called for the Florida High Schools and this past year was Florida's new chief for the Minor League Football System. However, we can only attribute the earlier references to other Leagues as someone's wishful thinking.
A joint 1967 and 1989 mini-reunion was planned for the ski slopes of Vail for March 3-4 by Buff Arnold. We hope to have a report on the festivities soon. Buff practices architecture (and skis) in Vail. What a wonderful way to combine two loves.
