The squeaky wheel gets the grease. My past months of "squeaking" for more mail, combined with the inherent generosity of the holiday season, resulted in quite a load of grease indeed. The letters and cards have been great. Looking back, my plea should have read, "Please send me any news you have, and while you're at it, enclose a check for ten dollars payable to Save Our Secretaries, care of..." I could have taken care of two or three columns and my retirement in one fell swoop.
Oh well, onward and upward. Shanta Puchtler has had his hands full of late. Shanta is hard at work as a teacher, soccer coach, and dormitory manager at the Groton School in Massachusetts. I don't know which of these three duties is the most demanding, but the last is sure to be fall of surprises ("All right, you guys, untie Jimmy and go to BED!").
Another '87 class merger took place last September when Mich Poulin and Rusty Gardner were maried in Chester, Vt. The crowd on hand at the ceremony was rife with '87s as one would expect. No one gave me any details as to what exactly took place, but I'd say general carousing and lamp- shade-wearing was commonplace at the reception. You can dress us up, but you just can't take us anywhere.
Meanwhile, Meg Crone made a move last year that those experiencing midlife crises would envy. She said "adios" to her public relations job in Boston and spent six weeks touring the U.S. and Canada with a friend. The trip's agenda included scuba diving, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, and stopping at what was surely way too many roadside rest spots. Having seen it all, Meg now is looking for an opportunity to work in a rural setting away from the manic urban lifestyle.
In a similar vein, the lure of the Rocky Mountain ski resorts has attracted at least three of our kin to my neck of the woods. Debbi Jayne is teaching history at the Alexander Dawson School in Lafayette, Colo. Laura Kennedy is teaching skiing at nearby Vail, and Kelley Grautski is working for Vail Associates.
There are still some who can't get enough frenzy in their lives, and they are living in New York (naturally). Sandy Reeves is working as a commodities trader, and Scott Sodokoff is a trader for Prudential-Bache. Marc Thompson was married last September and is hard at work in corporate finance for Oppenheimer, and Chris Thompson spends his time at Brown Brothers Harriman and reportedly loves "the City." Also, Britt Limes attends the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Amy Heiserman and Marie Trexler were unable to escape the Big Apple to attend Homecoming, but they faithfully watched the football game on TV and threw the appropriate tantrums over the officiating. Beaten but not defeated, the two sang the Alma Mater at game's end. Amy is a media planner for Young & Rubicam advertising, and Marie works in the international bond department of CIGNA.
I m happy to say there is much more news to come next month, but don't let that make you think your group duty as correspondents has been fulfilled. Send any news that you have, plus a check for ten dollars, to...
