A few random events from last summer. During the Pathmark Women's "Tennis Tournament in New Jersey, shown on cable TV! Tennis magazine editor NormZeitchick analyzed the top women's games and how they could improve. I hope the networks noticed and consider dumping Bud "The Buffoon" Collins. Another July/August media event found Mark Arnott starring in Pete Gurney's The Dining Room at the Pasadena Theater. Exchange student Amy Sabrin was named general counsel for the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C. Amy had been chief assistant to the special counsel to the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Ethics. Given the cutbacks at the NEA, she should face quite a challenge—probably on a par with finding ethics in the Senate.

For those of you having difficulty sending letters cross-country or phoning New York City, there will be a co-secretary/guest columnist/daytime host on the Left Coast, BillPrice. Bill has graciously volunteered, and I have gratefully accepted. More to follow when da Weasel decides on his upcoming relocation.

On September 13, President Gary Dicovitsky convened a meeting of our executive committee in New York City. Attending the meeting were Dave Bailey, John Burke,Chip Carstensen, Bob Jeffe, Jack Manning,Bill Schur, and Barry Weeks. At this meeting, a couple of the remaining class offices were filled. Young Dawkins and Lauren"Duff" Cummings will follow their smashing reunion success with its offspring: mini-reunions. John Burke was elected reunion chairman for our 25th (1997) and has advised us that it is never too early to hear from volunteers. News on the head agent will follow, so keep watching the bulletin board.

A large part of the meeting was devoted to defining just what an executive committee should be doing. It was pretty straightforward for us to define the social part, communicating what classmates were doing and periodically reuning (maxi or mini), and also the financial part—supporting Dartmouth College, though a bit more difficult to agree on how we could improve those areas. The toughest part is trying to determine how all of you feel about what's going on in Hanover these days-pro and con. Through this column and, to a greater extent, Fred Crossman's newsletter, we would like to provide a forum for your opinions. Through some periodic contact by executive committee members we hope to get some informal polling on what you feel are key issues at the College and to provide some input for Dave Bailey when he represents us at Alumni Council meetings. His first meeting, by the way, is in early December. Kind of a lofty goal for a class as diverse as ours, n'est ce pas? On the other hand, kind of appropriate for a "voice crying in the wilderness."

Enough of the ravings—yesterday's red-eye from the Left Coast is taking its toll. If I have my deadlines right, Happy Thanksgiving.
