March. Comes in like a lion. Spring training. Madness, Ides of. Spring (the real thing). Out like a lamb. Take your pick, does not really matter, because you will be reading this in June.
Now June, there's a month. Five years as class secretary, which constitutes the normal sentence, oops, term; but this is a leap term, and so, one more year. For JohnBurke, though, it is the one-year countdown to the big one, the mother of all Reunions, our 25th. I scrupulously (or maybe occasionally) avoided its mention, but now, due to its impending proximity and the dearth of hard or soft news, I am forced to resort to shilling for our class (is that not my job description?). Be there or be square (what is a column without at least one cliche?). Next column will contain a progress update based on a class executive committee meeting in April.
From the last column, we segue neatly into the class mini-reunion update from Barry Weeks. We are, indeed, planning on September 26-29 at the New Seaberry Resort and Conference Center, which is near Hyannis on Cape Cod (yes, hard by the Kennedy family complex). Other than a football weekend mini-reunion for a Harvard game, this will be our first out-of-Hanover experience with a mini-reunion (seems like a better way to describe it than feeling we are now grown up enough to try this, which would likely dissuade classmates). We will have access to a golf course starting at noon. For the links-impaired, there is a search underway for tennis courts, local points of interest, and if all else fails, a good bar with a large-screen TV. Contact Barry at the Dartmouth Club in NYC at (212) 986-3232 with your ideas. We are planning a class meeting and a dinner.
One of Greg Yadley's minions, Hans Stumm, called to hit me up for my annual donation. The joke's on him, I always give, so while he thought he was squeezing me for a donation, I pumped him for info. Hans is an insurance and financial planner living in Chestnut Hill, Mass. He has two daughters, one in college, one in high school. OK, not my most effective interrogation.
Hope you enjoyed your all-too-brief spring.
