Last summer President George Bush called upon General Stormin' Norman Schwarzkopf to rally the troops for Operation Desert Storm. The volunteer army and those called up from the National Guard performed with amazing efficiency. Whether we agree with the decisions or not, we are quite relieved that the battle is over and that the troops continue to return home.
This past February President Allen Zern called upon me Jomn'Jack Heidbrinkto rally you, the troops of the class of 1965, for Operation Dartmouth Story. Your class calls you. Now is the time for all good men to pick up the pen, mightier than the sword, and join the ranks.
Since I have no news tor ammunition, I will institute a formal call for volunteers. ClydeDietz, report immediately. Bo Andersen,Andy Anderson, Roger Anderson, DougAnderson, where are you? Rex Roberts and Roger Rines, we are interested in knowing your story. Tim "Josh" Taylor, you volunteered during Operation Yearbook, and again for Operation 25th Reunion, and we know you will surely lead the way by re-enlisting. Tim McLaughlin, write today. All ten of you whose last names begins with O are called. Bob O'Brien, Mike O'Connell, BillOberlink, Dave Oesterheld, FritzOffensend, Barry Ofstedal, Jerry Ogden,Don Orosz, Mike Orr, Ahmed Osman, and Rob Overton are sure to volunteer. Both of the "U" members of the class are next. BobUpton and Roger Urban, we are interested in what you have been doing. Ted Talbot, can you hear die call all the way from Australia. Jack Herney, can you figure out why your name has come up on list?
The good people at the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine said that I may use up to 600 words per column. My hope is to have enough ammunition for the nine issues that you receive each year. Operation Dartmouth Story will not end in six months. It goes on as long as we live and remember. I have asked Commander Bruce Jolly of the Class Newsletter forces to send you a green postcard with my address on it. Look for it, fill it in, and mail it before postage goes up again. For ten cents more you can mail me a letter or a newspaper article that describes your adventures. If you have the desire, feel free to call me on the phone, 617/272-2017, to give me the news. Calls at home in the evening are best for me. I would like to hear from you in one way or another.
I will finish this with the names of a few more people who are hereby called to join up. Let us hear from Pete Frederick, RickMahoney, Allen Zern, Ken McGruther,Tucker Mays, Matt Morrison, Vic Mair,Palmer Wooglin, Paul Sowa, Pete Sapione,Jim Scott, and the man you see in the mirror each day.
