The first annual '43 minimini-reunion on Cape Cod, Mass., is now history. We were blessed with perfect weather, a quaint inn with an excellent kitchen, and a fine turn out. Those in attendance were Bud and Betty Miskell, Waldo and Sue Fielding, Bob and Nancy Alesbury, Eddie and Lorraine O'Brien, Chan and Amy Stevens, Farmer and Jan Mead, Howie Thomas, Binney and Shirley Tower, and Andy and Clare Caflrey.
Regrets came from Jug and PhyllisO'Conner and Pres and Ellen Brooks. Bud Miskell and Waldo Fielding will organize next year's event, which will be well-announced in this column and Eddie O's newsletter.
I think Jim Adams should organize a similar lunch at his favorite tavern in Venice, Fla., next March. Ray and Judy Colby, Dick andJane Kimmel, high fashion model MarieKane, and the Towers will be there for sure. I am sure others in the Sarasota/Ft. Meyers/ Naples area will come, as well as Alex andMary A. Nagle from Vero Beach. Other groups of '43 s should try to have mini-minis too, in order to develop momentum for the big 50th. Remember, I need three months lead time to get the date and place into die column.
Farmer Mead is well entrenched in his new home in Vineyard Haven on Martha's Vineyard. He is in charge of every commission except the annual 4th of July Auction that is always chaired by Art Buchwald.
Riginette F.riz writes with the tragic news that Paul developed Alzheimer's Disease soon after retirement. She informs us that after Paul left the navy he entered into the field of sales (rather than geology), and traveled Arizona for a paper house for 38 years. Paul and Riginette met in Arizona and have two children: Jean, a nurse in Louisiana, and John, the chief of Fire and Security at Tucson's International Airport. They have five grandchildren. Paul's address is 701 East Adams St., Tucson, AZ 85719.
Bob Ehinger, our class VP and retired corporate VP at AT&T, has been honored by the National Executive Service Corps for his volunteer management consulting services for the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum.
The Dartmouth Alumni Magazine has won Newsweek's Sibley Award for the best periodical in higher education. Editor Jay Heinrichs was kind enough to share the award with the class secretaries, who write "the most read part" of the magazine.
Many of you have been kind enough to forward a Smithsonian Magazine article about the Yale '43 secretary manufacturing a fake classmate to help fill up his column. This classmate was so outlandish that after several years he became an embarrassment to Yale, and his obituary was called for. Don Taylor, CharlesClark, and Charles Cusack were among the '43 s who notified me of the article.
Jim Gilfillan's claim to be the youngest member of the class (born Feb. 10, 1923) was challenged by Paul Rill (Jan. 26,1923). Sorry Paul, you are a couple of weeks too old.
Our next writers from the H groups include: John Hutchinson, Frank Hussey,James Hooker, and Jesse Holton. I regret to announce the deaths of J. DacyStevens of Albany, N.Y., and Warren A. Dale of Houston, Tex.
