47 Congratulations, Head Agent Bob Mortimer, ending your first full year of operation! The goal set by the College was $95,000. Bob and his team of agents and contactors, and all of us, made $101,566. This done with 259 donors, or 59 percent of our class of mixed years, incoming, and outgoing. That's an average gift of $409, although we did have leadership donors who lifted us up. Bob is a winner, and so is our class, and so, too, are Dartmouth College and the students of today. Bob has sent out his thanks to us all.
Our fall mini-reunion will be a great time for visiting, parading, and seeing football and colored leaves. We'll be on our way, as we read this. The Norwich Inn has been sold out, chock full of '47s, since July. There are other places to look, if you can still make it. It's worth it even as a day trip: class meeting at New Hamp dorm at 9 a.m., Yale game at 1 p.m., and dinner at Norwich at 6 p.m.
Buck and Mo Buckingham in Seattle have winning ways, even if their teams don't. Their son Bill Jr. sent us a picture of their new arrival, Spencer. He bears a remarkable likeness to his Gran'dad, having a forehead that has no top; but he was only one hour old in the picture and can hope for hair soon. Sadly, our class has lost another big contributor to society, Sam Brody, to melanoma on July 29. Sam made a huge mark in design in New York City housing, integrating the housing into city life. A full obituary will appear later.
