How wonderful to learn that our column is doing it's job! That is true. We've had a response from a new '47 friend, Albert Burbank, living in Alton Bay, N.H., up in our fair lakes area. A1 phoned to say it's high time he got in touch, and he wants to be in on all the coming class events. We talked for a half hour exchanging names of friends and our common experiences. He always reads this column (bless you, Albert), and has picked up names from the past familiar to him. A1 was a Hanover boy, coming to Dartmouth as a V-5 trainee, and subsequently went on to at least four other colleges, achieving multi-degrees. He played in our marching band for the two famous Notre Dame football games in 1944, '45. He'll have more to say in a future column. For now, it's welcome aboard, A1 Burbank.

There are many more out there, who have remained fairly incognito, and are waiting for just the right time to come forward. The few columns prior to Reunion next June will be a perfect opportunity for mentioning names planning to attend, friends you're hoping to see, your special interests, and yes, if you are unable to join us in June, by all means do write your message of "hello" to the others—you still qualify for this column. Did I mention the 55th Reunion expected in 2002?

Pete and Mary Lou Vogt have retired, moved from Buffalo, and settled in Venice, Fla. Peter plays some golf, and puts time into painting, and working and helping at the Venice Art Center. Quite often we hear of a retirement, where the businessman's face gives way to that of an artist, and a new and rewarding career begins. Good luck, Pete.

Hal and Jo Ann Johnston now living in Montrose, Colo., spent an entire career with Caterpillar, making and using heavy equipment. Among other tasks, Hal worked on engine development. This work took them to Latin America for 18 years, as well as other worldwide locations for Caterpillar. Hal retired in 1983, and since then, they have seen most of the United States, in an RV, on the road for nine years. Hal and Joe will be driving to Hanover in their RV, and they are anxious to learn of any classmates planning to do the same. We've learned that Hanover has an ordinance prohibiting sleeping or plugging in RVs in town. However, they will provide ample space at the Storr's Pond park. Arrangements must be made directly through Hanover Improvement Society, at 57 South Main St., Hanover, 03755. Their phone is (603) 643-2408. So, RV travelers, please make your plans with them. Another option: reserve a regular dormitory room with the rest of us guys, and park your RV in the nearby dorm parking lot. It's O.K. to contact Hal and Jo at 1640 Wetterhorn, Montrose, CO 81401-6400. We'll see you all in Hanover.

Can anyone relate to this hobby: fixing up youngish (or oldish) cars, to keep them from a premature trip to the junkyard. This is the recycling job Bill Buckingham enjoys, but not his only job. He manages a tree farm, grows lots of raspberries, and serves as local water-system manager. Buck's sage comment: Happiness isn't at the end of the road, you find it along the way. How true, Bucko. See you and Maureen in Hanover in June.

See you soon.
