During a recent wonderful visit to London (how else could you describe going to the theater nine times in a short period of time?), I began to wonder about the whereabouts of our classmates who were living abroad. So I decided it was time to bring us up to date on some of our classmates exiles and nationals—who are living in other countries.
Two '67s, Hans Fuglesang and TonyAmriati, are now living in Norway. After getting his M.B.A. at Tuck and his A.B. with us (in that order, which may qualify as a record), Hans returned to Oslo, where he lives with his wife and two sons and is director of his own company. Tony has been in Norway since 1981 with his wife and three daughters and has been working as a tanker and shipping broker, which seems to involve a great deal of international travel.
Bill Thomson now resides in England in Surrey with his British wife and two children. I wonder if Bill understands the current gyrations in the European currency system? However, being at the mercy of political changes must have been a larger issue for GaryRubus. Gary is a defense attache with the American Embassy in Moscow. What an incredible time to be in Russia.
Frank Mwine only recently returned to his native Uganda in 1987 after service with the World Bank in Washington. In Kampala, Frank runs his own financial management consulting firm. With several children at school in the States, it sounds as if Frank has gotten to Hanover more often than many classmates from Boston. Someone who hasn't had the chance to return recently, though, is Rafael Quintero, who is in Ecuador. A professor at the Central University in Quito, Rafael is also the author of several books on the political history and sociology of the area. Politically active in the FADI party, Rafael is currently serving on the Quito City Council.
Apparently the lone '67 in Australia is BobMann. But to listen to him describe Sydney, where he has been since 1969, makes me think we are all missing something great. Bob started there with Readers Digest and now owns his own marketing firm which specializes in mailorder catalogs for the Australian and New Zealand market. Bob thinks Sydney is a great place to raise his son.
This brief travelogue has made me want to take a vacation. Next month, following John Sloan Dickey's teachings on the importance of our northern neighbor, we will check up on some '67s living in Canada. In the meantime, send me your news.
