Must've been a full moonsome utterly random missives in the mailbag this month. We'll do our best to segue.
First, Chris Kilburn wants his name cleared. You may recall that, a few months back, correspondent Brad Auer wrote that Mr. Kilburn was "working in Washington, D.C., as an immigration consultant under the auspices of George Bush." Here is Chris's response, postmarked Salt Lake City with no return address: "I have traded my AK-47 for a rucksack and the mountains of Chalatenango, El Salvador, for those of Utah, North America, where I am developing quite a rapport between myself, the rucksack, and Tom "Doughboy" McLaughlin's dog, Marley. Doughboy shuts us up when we get to rambling too much. If anyone runs into Jaffy Ryder, send me a smoke signal." C'est tout.
We move now from Salt Lake to Zimbabwe, where Tim Ambrose wrote that he was working on a novel which he hoped to have finished by this month. "Since graduating, I've been in more than 20 countries and have lived in four," wrote Tim, who created and directed a language school in Tokyo for two years, then traveled back here and in Europe briefly before heading to Africa.
"To Hong Kong, or rather from Hong Kong, where Sarah Jackson has been journalizing for the last two and a half years with stints in Cambodia and Burma. Sarah headed back to the East Coast this summer but left herself an opening: "If I can't find anything of worth to do, I'll head off to Indochina or West Africa, where I can get by with French and a bit of Chinese." It's a veritable global potpourri in Class Notes this month.
Wedding Roundup: Justin Hlavin married high school sweetheart Kym Bailey back in April with regular correspondent Scott Sabol as a groomsman and Ed Landers as an usher. Nate Denny, Werner Meyer, and MarkKelsey also attended and, according to Mr. Sabol, "a good time was had by all, evidenced by the fact that hotel management threatened to throw us out each night during our stay in the Chicago area." The newlyweds are living in Chicago.
Diane Menard Young wrote of her marriage to Nicholas Young in May of last year, in which Kelly Aldrich Ouellette and AlisonFontaine joined the wedding party. Diane is teaching high-school math and physics in Monson, Mass., while completing her master's in secondary education. Her husband will receive an Ed.D. from American International College next May. Jim Ouellette and BillStoro also appeared at the wedding, both now doing their medical residencies in family practice and pediatrics, respectively. Mr. Storo is also engaged and plans to marry in October of next year.
Diane also wrote that Ms. Fontaine followed suit, marrying hometown sweetheart Peter Engel back in May of this year. Diane, Stephanie Hurlbut, and Mary Pavel were in the wedding party, and the Ouellettes, NicoleSakowitz, and Melanie Blood were there to celebrate as well.
Next month: A letter from Quave Burton and an update on our Fifth Reunion, which is only seven months away.
