Like I told you last time, you're all away for the winter. Good grief! Got recorded phone messages: "We're scaling Mount Everest"; "We 're cruising the Bongo Straits"; and on and on. Good for you. However Dale Armstrong had a recording left at his Pittsburgh digs saying that he and Gloria left Pittsburgh in October and would return in May. They're in Naples, Fla. I spoke to him. He's enjoying a daily workout on the links. Completely retired except for an occasional board meeting at his golf club. Sends regards to all. I had dwelled upon the activities of our class officers in my previous effort.
Got all but Jack Whitman and Walt Snickenberger. About them! Jack's still in Hyannis, Mass. Past prez of the Dartmouth Club of Cape Cod. Current leader is our own BillDe Stefano. They meet once a month but lunch instead of dinner. I guess lunches are more to the liking of us '46ers these days. Do you suppose that is because we really are getting a bit older? Know I am, reached 73 on February 17th and can report that I am at the "top of my game," whatever you can derive from that. "Snick" is still in New London, N.H. Keeps track of the athletic scene up in Hanover and recently served as an official at the Dartmouth relays. For those not familiar with track and field that's one of the bigger events in the winter season and Reg Pierce tells me that the town gets sold out just like Dartmouth Night weekend.
Snick's off to Arizona in late February where he'll rendezvous with Bob and Jackie Kimball, and no doubt whack the little white ball around.
I did speak with our two representatives from the great city of Dayton, Ohio. Who? Gus Gillaugh and Dick Scharrer, natives of that city and still there. Gus is pretty much retired but goes to the office once a week, probably to pick up a check. He had a long and successful career with New England Life. Dick's still practicing law, though not as stren- uously as he once did. Says he has to because youngest child, daughter Ann, is tying the knot in April and a big affair is planned.
I tried to reach you, Dr. Nick Vorys, but the College doesn't have your phone number and apparently you moved to some great metropolis called New Albany. I guess that move was brought about my needling you at the 50th and asking how could a town have a name like "Gahanna," where you then resided? A private joke between Nick and me, but you Bible students will recognize the resemblance between it and the notorious "Gehenna." But it's on to New Albany, and Nick, please drop me a line so I'll know what you're doing. And for 32 cents, that goes for the rest of you.
Sorry, a shorter column than usual. Will do better next time. 'Til then, behave and enjoy. It's possible.
