There are some classes where a couple of people take turns doing a column for the Alumni Magazine. Not a bad idea! Some people apparently aren't quite sure where to send their news; however, the address of the class secretary appears at the end of each class notes column. Not an excuse!

We recently talked by telephone with DukeBarto's widow, Horty, and she sounds fine. She is staying on in their apartment in Sykesville, Md. Since their son no longer lives in Hanover, she has not been back here for some time.

Ed and Fran Carpenter are still at home in Vermont, and because of arthritis they don't travel much.

Sadly, there are two more deaths to report. We just learned that Ellie Wright died in June 1988. He spent most of his working life in Canada. John M. Compton (Conlan) died in Derry, N.H., last July. He had worked on Wall Street and later for a telephone company.

When we attended a Bequests & Trusts slide show in Hanover last fall, a prize was given to the oldest attendee. The same apparently was done at the Cape Cod Club. We prefer to think of it as a prize given to the members of the earliest class in attendance! At the Cape it was given to two members of '29, BillMagenau and John Quebman.

With the cat Socks now living in the White House as the nation's top pet, it seems appropriate to quote Rip with the following: Our puss in catrobatic glee flips in midair to play with me then quick regains that feline look that says, "I'm Cat, and you're a schnook." Count me out please I'm a dog person.
