It's Alumni Fund time again, and if you haven't responded to the plea, please do so; that way we can run right by the $168,000 (five-percent) goal that Chris Cundey and Charlie Pinkerton have set for us. Also, let's not forget our mini-reunion this fall, October 29-31, the weekend of the Harvard game. On Friday the dinner will be at the DOC House, and on Saturday the dinner and the party will be at our "home base," The Dowd's Inn in Lyme. Call ahead now for reservations.

Bill Sweet is recovering from open-heart surgery but promises us, with true regionalagent persistence, to gather more information on our classmates during '93. Bill is living in Tiburon, Calif.

Now to the news from John Towle, who states that "Al Krutsch and his wife, who live in Denver, were recently in Miami Beach, en route to the Bahamas, just long enough for dinner at Joe's Stone Crab Restaurant where I ran into them. He still looks like he could pick up five yards a carry!

"Timing is everything for Rayford Hymes. When Delta Airlines bought some of Pan Am's route, he immediately moved over to fly as a captain for Delta. Two weeks before Hurricane Andrew arrived in South Florida, Ray sold his home (in the path of the hurricane), and he and his wife, Rosemary, bought a house in Islamorada down in the Florida Keys." Hope Andrew missed the new house, Ray.

Bob Werbel was kind enough to furnish the Quality Paperback Book Club Review's February selection of the complete fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm translated and introduced by our own Jack Zipes. The Review notes that "Jack Zipes, a Professor of German at the University of Florida, acclaimed translator and children's literature specialist, presents the classic fairy tales as the Brothers Grimm intended them to be: rich, stark, spiced with humor and violence, resonant with the rhythms of folklore and song. It's the most comprehensive translation to date." Way to go, Jack!

Karl Holtzschue reports that he and Linda "bought a 200-year-old farmhouse in bad condition in Kent, Conn., to renovate and use for weekends and summers. It's a beautiful area near Lake Waramaug, and there our two grandchildren ran into Mike Stern. He and Margie have a place in Washington, Conn., and own some farmland on our road. Think I need a couple of Huffy mountain bikes [completely unsolicited! H.S.] to get around the lake." Karl also asked that we publish something on the Presidential Scholars we sponsor. Bill Long will do so in the newsletter.
