At its commencement exercises on May 8, Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh, N.C., conferred an honorary Doctor of Civil Laws degree upon classmate John D. Walton. John, who is vice president of human resources for Bristol-Myers Products division of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, was recognized for his many accomplishments in the field of human-resources management and for helping to create a special partnership between St. Augustine's and his company. The partnershp consists of an internship program and a lecture series whereby Bristol-Myers Products managers teach "inside-industry" workshops at the school. John has had a long career in human-resources management with a number of companies and is currendy a board member of The Conference Board's Advisory Council on Human Resources Management. John and his wife, Alice, live in New Canaan, Conn.

Last winter Jack Coggswell was named Volunteer of the Year by the Combined Health Appeal of America. Jack, who retired as treasurer of New England Telephone in 1990, serves as president of the Combined Health Appeal of Northeastern Massachusetts and vice chairman of Glover Memorial Hospital's board of trustees. Jack has been very active in the world of healthcare, volunteering his considerable talents to a number of organizations. In addition, he has served on several boards in the town of Needham, where he and Pat live in a yellow clapboard house on the edge of the historical district. I am indebted to Jack's mother, Lucy Cogswell, treasurer of the class of 1931, for sending me the newspaper clipping detailing this honor.

A recent issue of VOX at Dartmouth carried the news that classmate Skip Hance hasannounced his retirement as vice president for Development and Alumni Affairs at the College. Skip has held that position for seven years, during which a number of fundraising records were set, including the first $50 million in annual giving and four years in a row of breaking the previous year's record for raising money. Skip says that he will stay on in his post until a successor is named, probably late in the year, and then see what develops. He and Lou have a house in Orford in addition to their home in Hanover, and they plan to remain in the Upper Valley. Lou will continue to serve as an advisor to international students at the College. I learned at the class-secretaries meeting in May that Jud Hale had been appointed chairman of the Alumni Magazine's editorial board. The class is well represented on that board by Jud, Joe Mathewson, and Jere Daniell, which may explain why the magazine has been named the nation's top magazine in education for the fourth time. Also that weekend '55 class officers met to continue preliminary planning for the 40th Reunion in 1995, chaired by John French. Tom Byrne joined John, Bob Fanger, and Bruce Alexander for the session.

Congratulations to Bernard A. Kuttner, who has been selected for inclusion in the 1993-94 edition of Marquis Who's Who in the World. Buck is a recognized expert in trial law and has authored a code of ethics for government officials.
