There were times freshman year when we wandered about as a class counting from one to 69, crescendoing to a screamed climax. I wonder if this is still done. If so, it will no doubt die out with the class of 2000.

We did this once on the way to the Bema, where a senior regaled us with stories of drinking and sex. I am reasonably sure that no longer happens.

Stories of bonfire building and beanies are legion and don't bear repeating here, but other memories are worth mentioning. KenPaul sends the following:

"I remember two eerie experiences in Spaulding Auditorium that November. One was watching Hitchcock's version of Conrad's "The Secret Agent," only to have the film mysteriously stop at the climatic frame because of the Great Blackout.

"The second was the delicious (28-14) victory over a previously unbeaten, untied, and unabashed Princeton team, when the crowd watching a closed-circuit telecast obediently fell silent as Mickey Beard raised his hands on the field at Palmer Stadium, hundreds of miles away.

"Mostly I remember the people. I was from New York. They were from places like Clinton, Ill., Westwood, Calif., Guildford, Conn., Edinburg, Tex. They were great friends. Some of them still are."

Ted Leach recalls the "Bloomberg Proposal" put forth by Jeff Bloomberg. His suggestion was to use part of College Hall for bands and other social functions. The College disagreed.

Something perhaps better left unremembered is the "Boston Massacre" we as a class hosted at some Boston hotel during Harvard weekend. As I recall, we lost our collective shirt and went into debt. I won't mention the name of our class president who masterminded the event, but perhaps he can write and give his perspective of the weekend.

Twenty-eight years later and thousands of miles from Hanover, in a world that is so different from what was back then, CharlieMiller is looking for funding to help renovate and restart a school in Nimh Binh province, 70-some miles south of Hanoi. DavePrentice is better able to give you the details in his newsletter, but if you wish to contact Charlie, his address is 1-1-1, Nomizu 1- chome/Chofu-she, Tokyo 182, Japan. Home phone: 0423-62-3891; work phone: 0422-31- 6351; and fax: 0422-33-0381.

This news came to me by way of DekeOlmsted, who recently spent some time with Charlie in Tokyo. Charlie arranged for Deke to teach summer school at the American School in Japan. Charlie has been teaching there after starting his career in New England, and he has vacationed frequently in Vietnam. Deke would be happy to provide more information for any of you who are interested. He can be reached at 2009 SW 16th Ave., Portland, OR 97201. (503) 227-4415.

Remember the reunion June 16-19,1994. Take care and write.
