Some good news and some sad news to tell you. A call from Virginia O'Sheel told me of Pat's death on July 31 after a two-year struggle [with lung cancer. Pat had a great life in the Marine Corps, as a Foreign Service Reserve officer, and finally in the State Department. His book Semper Fidelis:the U.S. Marines in the Pacific 1941-45 would be interesting reading for those who participated in the Pacific campaigns.
The good news is that another grandchild has matriculated in the class of 1998. StanBerenson's granddaughter gained early-decision admittance to the '98 class.
Mini co-chairmen Charlie Blaisell and John Johannessen were expecting 45 classmates, wives, and friends for the Friday-Saturday reunion in September One of the main events was the dedication of three benches at Collis Hall in honor of Charlie and EllenCollis on Saturday morning after class meeting. Charlie and Ellen were present for the dedication.
A conversation with Stan Perry revealed that he and Vilma retired to Nacogdoches, Texas, about 14 years ago from Davenport, lowa, where he had been a food broker. They enjoy this part of eastern Texas, which has more pine trees than Maine. Stan keeps busy making and repairing golf clubs and can assemble just about any kind of custom clubs you need, including a set of Harry Penicks clubs.
