It was a great to see so many classmates at the recent mini-reunion which BillYaggy arranged in New York. The party after JerryZaks's play was a great nostalgia trip. At one point several of us were playing a game listing classmates we associated with certain places or activities in Hanover during our years there. The list was almost endless, but I thought it would be fun to share a few. Maybe some of you will want to write with your own.
Several people said they could only picture John Kornet on the stage in Spaulding Auditorium singing. Other music memories were Orie McCreary and John Hargraves playing the Rachmaninoff piano suites in Hopkins Center and Ken Davidson playing Schumann. Several English-major types said they could only picture Bob Bell, ArthurSchwartz, and Wayne Beyer sitting in overstuffed chairs in the Sanborn Library. Bob, by the way, has been named the William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of English and head of the Williams College Project for Effective Teaching.
It was great to see Ted Haynes, who came from California for the mini-reunion. I personally still picture Ted on the Freshman Trip (and he hasn't changed a bit), along with people like Bill Kirkpatrick. Bill's name, by association, led to the basketball court, which took us to all of our favorite sports memories, including some wonderful road trips to away games...which led to favorite road-trip stories which your correspondent will discretely omit. Can there be a '67 mini-reunion without road-trip stories?
Several people agreed they couldn't think of the Dartmouth Bookstore without seeing Jim Gibb there in almost permanent residence. Others said they couldn't picture The D's office without considering it Pete Golenbock's personal territory. One person said his most vivid memory of freshman year was watching Rob Dressier, direct from Fort Lauderdale, experience the first snowfall of the year. Someone else talked of picturing half of Little Hall sledding on the golf course on Thayer trays that same year.
Arid so the evening at Sardi's went. I could go on at great length. Do you have some vivid memories to share? Send them along with your news.
