Skip Louis gaveled 26 '580s to order (no easy task) at our fall class meeting at the home of Pete Williamson in Lyme, N.H. At the end of the meeting he recognized three of our classmates for their contributions to the class. Joe Jacquet, Skip noted, has been tireless in his efforts to organize the mini-reunions. Bob Gilges was recognized for the way he has kept the financial affairs of the class treasury in order with accuracy and a delightful wit. Pete Williamson, Skip commented, has been a faithful contributor to the College, helping the class set several records in giving, the last being at the time of our 25 th Reunion. Pete and Sue have also graciously opened their Lyme home for
the fall class meeting for the past several years.
John Trimble gave a brief report on the recently concluded Alumni Fund. He spoke of the College's change in the way it counts contributions to the Alumni Fund—namely, that all pledges to the fund have to be paid before July 1 each year in order to be credited to the class totals. He also asked for some help this year in soliciting our classmates.
Myles Slosberg continues his efforts for the class working in the area of bequests and trusts. Skip pointed out that Bob Pratt has devoted much of his law practice to estate planning. Bequests and the establishment of remainder trusts are excellent ways to support the College in the future while not cutting into your financial resources at the present time.
Representing the class on the Alumni Council is Bob Eleveld. Bob noted that a recent survey conducted by the Council indicates that the alumni/ae are presently pleased with the direction and leadership of the College. He went on to say that the communications committee is looking into mail that is coming out of the College. They will be exploring not only the amount of mail but also the nature of the mailings. Skip also noted that Bob Gilges is just beginning a term on the council.
Joe Jacquet passed on a complaint from Gary Finerty meant for John Murphy. Gary wanted to know why John seemed to feature only balding old men in the class newsletter. Murphy was heard to say that the camera never lies. I wonder what Gary was talking about? Not that I have lost any hair since June of 1958, but I do find that what used to be about a ten-second exercise now seems to take three or four minutes—"this one here, another just over there, not too close."
I'm writing this while on the way to San Francisco. Great to see Ben McAdams and Willie Durousseau present at the reunion. Each said that they had come east to give their nerves some rest after the several earthquakes that have rattled Southern California recently. John Armstrong was about to take off for the winter at Breckenridge. He and Marcia invite any '58s heading to Colorado this winter to be sure to give them a call and stop. Just look up their number in the phone book.
