On a chilly, gray, first day of November Saturday morning, Skip Louis Gaveled an unruly 40 or more classmates to order in Room 108 Reed Hall. (You remember. Reed Hall is the one on the far right of the Dartmouth Row.) After handling a few pieces of class business he turned the meeting over to John Armstrong, our 40th Reunion chairman. John shared the good news that six months before our June 15th to 18th reunion there are already more than two hundred '58s, spouses, and friends who have signed up. FrankGould is busy getting a campaign of personal contacts to encourage all '58s to be on the Hanover Plain in June. The College has given us the new dorms across from the gym. Each room has a private bath and there is air-conditioning on the outside chance that an early June heat wave should make a visit to Hanover. Walt Vail Outlined the work of the class 40th gift committee. The goal is a record-breaking $1,500,000. Several advance gifts have us already a third of the way. How about committing yourself to a leadership gift of 51,958 or more? Saturday night, despite heavy rains, some 90 of us gathered in Lyme for food and fellowship. Thanks again are due to Joe Jacquet for organizing a great weekend.

Jackson Stromberg was appointed a member of the 1997 advisory committee for the Export-Import Bank of the U.S. Commenting on his appointment he noted, "The bank plays a vital role in allowing U.S. companies to compete in today's challenging global marketplace, and I'm delighted to be able to help play a part in this effort." Jack continues to live in Mill Valley, Calif., while working in San Francisco as executive vice president and managing director of Bechtel Enterprises Inc.

Deep River, Conn., is now the home of Dan Wilkes. Dan and his wife, Lynda, work together as distributers of cosmetics and fragrances to a wide range of stores from Saks Fifth Avenue to chains like CVS Revco. Accompanying his letter was a photograph of Dan and Bill Harley taken last spring on the slopes of Okemo, Vt. He noted that it was the first time that he and Bill had seen each other since they were working on the Daily D.
