The toughest part of the job of Class Secretary is dealing with months where you just have no real news to report. In fact, that's not entirely true, since one can always draw upon the activities of those same three friends who have appeared numerous times before. This month, I will spare you those tales, however. Seriously though, please bear with me. If you'd like more class news, then I respectfully request you get off your butts and write me a note.

The Swarthmorean reported that JamesHooper was promoted some time ago within the advertising department of The New Yorker magazine. He was named salesperson of the year for 1993 also.

I've been harping about the Internet for several months now, and so it makes perfect sense that I tell you all about what our own Andy Williams (AndyJW@Dartmouth.edu) is doing for Dartmouth in that area. For those less familiar with the Internet, here's some background. The fastest-developing, hottest part of the Internet today is something called the World Wide Web (WWW), or the "Web" for short. By using a computer program called Mosaic (available in the public domain) on a computer directly connected to the Internet, one can cruise around the "Web" very easily, looking at pictures, downloading sounds, and getting information from computers located all around the world. Each Web "page," as they are known, contains links to other pages. One might be reading an article about traveling in Europe, for example, that mentions various hotels and restaurants. That page might allow the user to click on any of the hotel and restaurant names, and be instantly transported to another page with additional information about those locations.

Andy has designed Dartmouth's home page (kind of like the front page of a book), and now maintains it. You should check it out if you have access to the Web. I was pleasantly surprised to find that he had posted photos of Dartmouth I could view on my screen, such as freshmen building the bonfire (which didn't really burn down this year for some reason), and the multi-colored autumn leaves on a tree in front of Sanborn. It was almost like having a window looking out on Hanover. From there you can even visit Andy's own home page, which contains links to his favorite Internet haunts. I found the downloadable Melrose Place photos in the Fox Network area most entertaining. There's a lot going on on the Internet, so check it out if you can. I should mention that I have been asked to sit on an Alumni Council ad hoc committee which will be examining ways the College can keep in touch with its alumni electronically. More on that as it becomes available. [For moreabout the Internet, see page 32. ed.]

You know, our reunion's now just about half a year away-June 16 to 18. (That's a weekend.) At least several hundred members of the '9O class will converge on the campus during those few days for what will be a fan, entertaining, and intellectually enriching experience. In addition to parties, meals, dancing, hiking, and all that other stuff we only hadtime to do during the two weeks at the beginning and end of our Dartmouth careers, your Reunion Committee has scheduled an intellectual exercise. The details were being firmed up as of this writing, but it looks like it will include some kind of panel and discussion involving Dartmouth faculty. We're trying to provide something for everyone.

The members of your Reunion Committee are: Chairperson Cheryl Loeffler Shepard, reachable at (312) 348-8456, Jason Kable,Jon London, Corrie Wolosin Martin, PeterZimm, Karen Behling, Liz Portland, SaraMattis, Erick Roesch, Jennifer Ryan, Christine Perry, Jono Sollinger, Kyle Blood,William Boulware, Brad Drazen, KathyHeafey, Andy Kulyk, Julie Urda, and SandyYusen. If you have notyet R.S.V.P.'d, feel free to do so by calling Cheryl at the number above. You can also drop her a line with any ideas, comments, or suggestions you may have.
