Those of you who didn't make Homecoming Weekend missed a beautiful October day in Hanover. The Young Alumni tent was crawling with '92s eager to catch up with people from around the country. For me and a few others, the weekend began with a class officers' meeting to elect a new class president. Officers attending were Julia Hynes, Jon Yusen, Gretchen Rousch,Brett Scoll, and Johnette Kao, and LaliOtterness attended as acting assistant director of Alumni Affairs. Jon Yusen, who lives in Hanover and attends Tuck, was elected president. He will lead the class until our Fifth Reunion, at which time the class will vote for new class officers. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the class executive committee, please feel free to write me at the address below or call me at (617) 472-3430.

We also elected a new newsletter editor: Julia Hynes. Julia lives in Jenkintown, Pa., and if you would like to contribute something to the newsletter, send it to Julia c/o Alumni Affairs at Blunt Alumni Center. Look for Julia's first newsletter in early spring.

In other news, a September article in the Memphis Business Journal praised a new nonprofit organization called Hands On Memphis, which was founded in 1993 by PhilipMcCaull. Hands On Memphis, modeled after similar organizations around the country, matches volunteers with volunteer opportunities around the community. Hands On Memphis volunteers, currently numbering 450, can spend time on any of 25 to 30 projects per month, which include serving breakfast or dinner to homeless people, tutoring underprivileged children or taking them to baseball games, or doing maintenance work at Memphis shelters. At the moment Philip, who plans to attend business school next fall, is the director and entire staff of Hands On Memphis. If you live near Memphis and would like to participate, call (901) 452-2151.

A recent letter from Sarah Pettus announced that she has finally returned to the U.S. after two years in China, and she now teaches Chinese and coaches girls' soccer at Northfield-Mount Herman, a private high school in western Massachusetts. Sarah works with Tina Mabley, who is on the admissions staff at NMH.

Jennifer Koop sent an update on her whereabouts. Jen spent the past two years traveling, including medical missions to Kenya, but began medical school in September. She reports that Justin Snyder is still working for Los Amigos d'Americanas in Houston, Texas, and travels back and forth to Central and South America.

I received a postcard from Scott Gardner, who lives in San Francisco, where he works as a project-development manager for the AES Corp. and plays rugby for the Olympic Club. On a recent trip to the Hawaii International Tournament, Scott found himself watching football "with a bunch of old guys" at the Waikiki Canoe Club. "Suddenly one yells to the other, 'How'd those Dartmouth boys do today?' My ears perked up. 'You from Dartmouth, mister?' It was a man named ClineMann '45, a Hawaiian native...who was a freshman in 1941, when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. It took several days for him to find out if his family was okay." Mr. Mann hadn't been to Hanover in more than 50 years, so Scott brought him up to date.

As you've probably noticed, my recent columns haven't been able to end without wedding news. Brian Gordon married Margo Englehardt in July. Brian teaches math in Middletown, Conn., where the couple lives. Margo, who graduated from Regis College, teaches third grade.

Take care, and keep in touch! If you ever need a place to stay in Boston, let me know!
