I was awakened early one morning by a phone call from Dan Isaacs. Now, I don't want to give the impression that I wasn't thrilled to get his call, but I wonder if Dan was aware that 213 is a West Coast area code and that it's three hours earlier on the West Coast than it is on the East.
Dan reports that Ken Ferree got married last April. Ken met his wife, Laura, while at Georgetown Law School. But the main reason Dan was calling was to complain about those class-noteless months last year. "My wife, Eileen, gets upset," he explained. "She reads the Alumni Magazine cover to cover." Eileen, as you might have guessed by her non-bold-faced status, did not attend Dartmouth, which just goes to show: perhaps newsstand sales lie somewhere in the Alumni Magazine's future.
Speaking of newsstand sales, I recently ran into Connie Craig, who was bemoaning the fact that Heidi Fleiss is no longer making headlines. "But why?" I asked, assuming that, like me, everyone must be tired of hearing about the youthful Hollywood madam turned sleep wear impresario. "Because!" wailed Connie, whipping a pair of dark glasses from her purse, jamming them on her face, and tossing her hair. Did I mention that Connie's an actress? Instant Heidi. I just want to say, Connie, that if they ever make a mini-series about Heidi Fleiss, they'll be fools to try it without you.
Jessica Rosenberg Brown has been an invaluable soldier on the baby-watch front. She and her husband, Jim, are delighted to announce the birth of their own daughter, Lily Pauline, who was born May 17 at New York Hospital, just in time for Jessica to start her new job as a reproductive endocrinologist at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn. Little Lily crossed paths at a very young age with Nicole Hedley, who was born two days earlier, same place, to Pat Lippoczy Hedley and Jon Hedley '82. The Hedley famille has since relocated to Greenwich, Conn. Jessica also mentioned another prospective 2015: baby Matthew, born to Sue ThorntonDeNunzio last February.
And Jean Hanff Korelitz has not only produced a baby, the lovely Dorothy Aoife Korelitz Muldoon (with a little help from husband Paul, an Irish poet who is head of the creative writing department at Princeton), but has just finished a book, a legal thriller. Since very few of you have called, and no one has written, I thought I'd fill the rest of this space with my recent celebrity sightings. At lunch not too long ago at the Ivy (a favorite movie-industry eatery in L.A.), who should walk in but Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett. In case you were wondering, Julia really is beautiful in person, and Lyle's hair would have done Woody Woodpecker proud. But the best part of all was that when they got up to leave, all the other celebrities in the place (Rosanna Arquette, a pregnant, long-haired Demi Moore, supermodel Vendela) turned to stare too. That Lyle is a real gentleman. He opened Julia's car door for her before sliding into the driver's seat of their Mercedes and driving off. The moral of the story, kids, is 1) If you're in L.A. and want to see some movie stars, go to the Ivy for lunch; and 2) call, but not too early.
